Manic Miner is a platform video game originally written for the ZX Spectrum by Matthew Smith and released by Bug-Byte in 1983. It is considered one of the most influential platform games of all time. It is the first game in the Miner Willy series and among the early titles in the platform game genre. The game itself was inspired by the Atari 8-bit family game Miner 2049er. Manic Miner has been ported to numerous home computers, video game consoles and mobile phones such as Amiga, Amstrad CPC, BBC Micro, Commodore 16, C64, Dragon 32/64, Game Boy Advance / GBA, J2ME, MSX, Oric 1, SAM Coupé, Tatung Einstein, MTX, PMD 85, Xbox 360 and ZX Spectrum.

I'd heard of this game from Mark Brown's video about the history of British video game development, but seeing a longplay of it really puts into perspective why it was such a big deal. It combines elements from popular arcade platformers and maze games of its age into something that actually looks impressive on the ZX Spectrum and is genuinely fun to play. Now I know why Chris Sawyer named one of his ride designs in _Roller Coaster Tycoon_ after it.

One of the first games I had for the spectrum. There’s some slight differences in the BugByte and Software Projects versions, cheat codes if I remember correctly.

Wasn’t one of the codes WRITETYPER ? Or was that in Jetset Willy ? The 80’s is a long time ago, maybe I’m getting them mixed up in my old age ?

I play this game before and it’s really fun plus it has many other ports similar to it and the MSX Version is similar to the ZX Spectrum Version because the gameplay is all Identical but the Music has its different tone

grande el video, q nvidia rtx me das, en su dia lo jugué para que ahora nos vaciles... Xd , tuve q usar pokes para acabarmeló , no pasaba de la pantalla 12-13, éste siempre antes que el abu simbel. gran video.
