Burai wanted revenge yes, and persued the Hellfriede as a weapon to carry out that revenge. Convinced by Bandora that the sword would grant him unlimited power to destroy the brother who betrayed him, she would conveniently negate a side effect, the power would corrupt his mind driving him insane. Bandora used his fragile state of being to manipulate him into doing her bidding, but his rage overpowered the strong influence and he considered not only the Zyurangers but Bandora's gang as enemies and attacked both, deciding to take his vengeance on the world that created his situation, with Dragon Caesar. Once the sword was destroyed, by Burai's own tears of penance, the spell Hellfriede had over Burai was broken as well. As in Power Rangers the evil sword was the key to breaking both evil spells.

I like how Linkara just says that the episodes were enjoyable, but it's just not for him.

To explain the ending of Geki's and Burai's fight, it's a Japanese thing you find very common in Japanese children shows (or the "shonen" genre if you will) which comes down to the simple concept of "Defeat Equals Friendship" the loser acknowledges the winner and his new friendship is a sign of respect which I thinks originates from the old Bushido (or samurai way of life). As an anime fan for almost 15 years now, I can tell you this is VERY common.

Y'know something? I was not at all surprised to learn that Grifforzer and Lamy were married in Zyuranger. I always kinda sensed a closeness between Goldar and Scorpina in MMPR that I could never explain. lol

Cool for you to do this. When most people who do comparisons of the two usually say "Super Sentai is way better than Power Rangers," it's refreshing to see a different opinion. I think Super Sentai has typically been a lot darker and deeper, but it also has a lot more silliness, as this episode has shown. MistareFusion did a good comparison of the two in his Power Rangers/Super Sentai series.

A part of me wishes that Power Rangers adapted Bandora's musical number.

It was a good arc and having Burai being Geki's brother was good development too. The sad part was that Burai didn't know that he was already dead during his time in frozen animation as the room he was froze in got dissolve by an earthquake destroying his actual body. He was revive by Daizyuzin just so he could awake Dragon Caesar thus allowing Daizyuzin and the other zords to combined so they could later fight Frankenstein and Satan. Immediately once Dragon Caesar comes to term with Daizyuzin then Burai service was not needed anymore thus why his life force got drain every time he left the command center. Interestingly though before he died he did transfer the Dragon power to Geki so they could still use that to fight Bandora and Satan later on. In a non-canon perspective, Burai did return in some of the later Zyu2 episodes which was later use for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, it wasn't meant to be canon and was merely made as what if stories. Eventually though when the Legendary War happen in Gokaiger, Burai was temporarily revived alongside other dead rangers to join forces with other Sentai team to fight against the Zangyack's army.

As a fan of Sentai, I do like the first season of Rangers more than Zyuranger. However, I also believe that Zyuranger was probably the best season they could have picked to start out with. Drago-Ranger was the very first sixth Ranger in Sentai's history, and choosing it for that reason as well as the draw of every kids favorite thing, dinosaurs, gave it a good formula for success. On the note of possible future Sentai reviews, though I don't think a KZfaq comment will provide any sway, I would recommend maybe checking out the first few episodes of Tokumei Sentai Go-Busters. It's the season that came between the shows used to make Super Mega Force and Dino Charge, so it's the first season of Sentai that was ever skipped over being made into a Ranger show. It uses a lot of Power Rangers terminology, shakes up the normal formula by having monsters and giant monsters being able to act independently of each other and not just be the same guy blown up among other things, and has individual Zords fighting on their own more often than any other season. It's apparently a very hit or miss season, but it's probably my favorite I've seen.

I'm sure you have heard this all before Linkara, but if you ever want to check out Super Sentai, a great place to start is Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger. The huge 35th Anniversary season, where all the previous teams make an appearance. For a Power Rangers fan like myself I entered Super Sentai knowing absolutely nothing, but the series does a fantastic job of explaining the history and themes of the other teams, and honestly... it is SO FREAKIN COOL seeing where all the original Power Rangers came from, seeing their original sentai teams and so on! It's a fantastic series and a perfect stepping stone that, despite me being an outside going in, honestly makes you feel like part of the Sentai family by the end of the series. I really hope you get chance to read this and I highly recommend checking out the first episode... where you can see the huge 199 rangers battle together... good god sends shivers down my spine every time. My childhood and so much more!

Fun fact: Geki is played by Mochizuki Yuuta, who after his roles on Zyuranger and Jetman (which he was also on, for two episodes), he went on to become one of the longest running actors in the Sailor Moon musicals. As well as the stunt coordinator on a few of them. ... I own Zyuranger on DVD.

Well, knowing what we know now in 2016, it is safe to say that Metal Gear Lamy would probably get a warmer reception from the fans than the actual MG game that was announced.

I do agree that Burai's dispelling of his hatred was pretty forced and felt unrealistic and I think a lot of that was due to the time and reveal of the candle. I've actually thought of this for a while and here's what I would have done. Everything runs the same up to the point when Burai is banished back to Earth by Bandora and he meets Clotho. Clotho then takes Burai to his chamber and tells him that it's a special place for him but doesn't reveal why just yet, that includes the candle but instead just gives him the dragon dagger to summon Dragon Ceasar. Then everything runs the same again up to the point when Geki defeats Burai. Daizyuzin then returns but the summon and awakening of Dragon Ceasar triggers something within Daizyuzin and he realizes that he has power over Dragon Ceasar and banishes him back to the sea and cuts off the connection of Dragon Ceasar and the dragon dagger. He then orders Geki to finish Burai off but shows mercy as before, but instead of plunging his sword into the grown, he does so into the dark saber, and this still doesn't change anything in Burai immediately. Unable to call Dragon Ceasar again and being humbled, humiliated, and defeated. Burai retreats along with the Dragon Dagger back to his chambers. Clotho then reappears and reveals the candle to him and tells him that when the candle expires, he dies. This then allows Burai to start contemplating everything that has happened and slowly but surely change his ways and dispel his hatred for Geki. This also changes the time of when Gouryuuzin/Dragon Zord in Fighting Mode appears. Burai every now and then decides to help the other rangers but doesn't really change his ways until he helps Geki get the super weapons and fend off King Brachion. He helps fend off the Frankenstein monster and it's here when Daizyuzin allows Burai to summon Dragon Ceasar and they form Gouryuuzin for the first time. Everything then flows the same as it does to when they unlock the true powers of Daizyuzin and form Kyukyoku Gattai Ulitimate Daizyuzin and it's here where Burai renounces all of his hatred upon realizing who he is. This would make the change in Burai feel more realistic and not feel so forced as it did before. Now of course, this would also probably change some things in Mighty Morphing Power Rangers as well, but I don't think it would have hurt that much because this is more about Burai's story in Zyuranger and not Power Rangers.

A lot of these jokes were really good. One thing I wanna know, Linkara. Would you ever consider taking a look at at least the first episodes of Sentai just to see the differences in the set ups between Sentai & their respective Power Rangers adaptations?

If you really want to know what "Pudgy Pig's" real name was, here's a little hint. Bandora had something of a naming pattern to her Dora monsters. If you listen real close to the lyrics of her song, you might figure out the special word she uses for naming her Dora monsters. And no, it's name isn't Dora Pig.

I remember when I was a kid and I saw the Zords descend into the earth in Green With Evil part 4 I literally thought they were sent to Hell. After seeing this turns out I was half-right and I didn't even know about Super Sentai until my early twenties.

I wonder what the actors of this show thought when they learned that their version of the Sentai was what made the Power Rangers so popular and iconic In the US. Epecially the actor who played the green ranger in the Sentai and the actress who played Bandora(Rita in Power Rangers).

Clotho wasn't killing Burai. Burai was killed in a cave-in when he went into suspended animation and Clotho brought him back to life (at Daizyujin's request), albeit with a limited lifespan. Even bringing him to the lapseless room was an act to _extend_ Burai's life.

You high-class Patreon people should convince Linkara to do some Chojin Sentai Jettoman episodes. He's gonna be a fountain of gratitude to Japan.

I've learned something from this episode. I need to watch Sentai shows, they are fuckin crazy. I mean, I always knew they were campy and silly, but when you got a show that has an episode with a grandpa trying to run over his grandson with a forklift you know you have something special.

Any time I hear or see the word Zyuranger I always hear AGVN singing it during his review of Power Ranger games. But since I only ever heard him say it until now. I always thought it was Jew Ranger. I mean not literally just thought him singing it like that made it sound like it had a J in it. Forgetting that some Japanese to english translation sounds different than how we use letters. Like the name Tsubaki or Tsunami. You would thing there was no T in it since when you say those names you start with the S. As I don't think they english dictionary has a word that begins with a silent T.

This from last year so I'm not sure if you've watched others yet, but if you didn't you should check it out from episode 1. There's not as many episodes as the Mighty Morphin version so you could polish them off in a week. The thing that I enjoy about them is that no matter how goofy the situation is the heroes treat it with as much dread and seriousness as possible.

Neat, I've actually seen these episodes! Shout Factory has Zyuranger up for streaming, and I've been gradually powering through. I'm in the 30's now, past the Green Ranger arc, and honestly, I think it's a stronger work than the American series.
