Recently I learned the bug is real, by the way, in the Barty Crouch Jr. cosplaying as Alistair Moody scene where he's perverting reality with polyjuice potion- they are called Tailless Whip Scorpions, and it makes the scene all the more upsetting, that he would torture a real creature from this big spinning rock, in front of children, including Neville. Especially Neville. This scene is an incredible take on the insidious teaching abilities of those who side with totalitarianism, with an ideology that is "us vs. them", who fear monger using scape goat-ing tactics that literally disparage some of their own kind, who separate and kill innocents, destroy families, and aren't even that clever, really. Children are the best of us at copying, especially if they are to think that there's a justification/motivation behind their behavior (tied to survival, pleasure, financial standing, and wanting a 'better future' without envisioning what that means, ultimately, for you, is kissing snake ass)

The scene with Crouch fucking around with the kids while showing them the Imperio curse tricking them into thinking that Imperio is a curse for pranking somebody into shoving horse shit into their faces and then suddenly going full Death Eather on them whilst saying "What should I have her do next?... Jump out the window?... Drown herself?" while the whole classrom goes silent realizing how terrible and scary the Imperio curse is is one of the best scenes in an otherwise craptastic movie adaptation.

Then imagine having a "professor" specifically addressing so you'd have a front-seat view in front of the entire class so you can have a front-row seat to hearing the awful screaming from the pain of the spider and see its squirming by the same curse that permanently disabled your parents. And all the while the professor making you watch its suffering is not just any death eater in disguise, but one that personally tortured your parents.
