I love how shitting on Taylor is always "critical analysis " also Billie needs 10 years before she can even be in the same world as taylor, and random people telling Taylor she can do better must make her burst out laughing.

such talent. You gotta use your pretty face in the thumbnail, girl. Use your unfair advantage to rise above the average. That's how world works right now. The video's views are not doing justice to your talent.

Interesting! lol "No I'm not but you should see your faces" was a highlight lyric for me. I enjoyed her breaking the fourth wall and saying something so nutty, unexpected, and unserious. It also reminded me of Madonna's Papa Don't Preach (I'm keeping my baby). Anyway, I remember getting a kick out of it on first listen. I'd be curious as to why exactly you disliked that lyric so much -- is it the phrasing? Would you completely remove it or say it differently? Btw, "albatross" is often used as a metaphor for an existential burden or curse (originally from a poem where a sailor kills a very helpful albatross and suffers for eternity as punishment).

I thougnt about the same for the first couple of weeks, now I'm listening to it a lot and I find the album very balanced, included some silly lyrics...

absolutely agreed! in taylor’s new album, i felt like she stayed in her “songwriting comfort-zone”. i was expecting the album to be bolder, something like folklore, but all we got was some sad music with an 80s synth… in billie’s album however, every song felt special and distinct from one another. and even with the “happier than ever“ album, which wasn’t as well received, billie still tried something new by composing with elements of jazz and bosa nova, so i really think taylor was really lazy with this one. talking about new albums, i highly recommend the last dinner party and chappell roan’s 2023 debut albums if you haven’t heard them before. prelude to ecstasy brought back elements of rock which i haven’t heard in many modern works, which is combined with some really good writing. meanwhile, rise and fall of a midwest princess is really fun and has clever lyrics with 80s-sounding beats. really liked your video and completely relate to only understanding 30% of lyrics!

Love the video I’m very much in agreement I should mention tho- the albatross is a key symbol of doom in the poem Rhyme Of The Ancient Mariner. Honestly the literary reference is perfectly on point

Not a huge Taylor Stan but I actually got more into her music with TTPD. Some of your criticisms are valid and I agree that the 30+ double album is bloated with some duds. But I disagree with your take on two of my favorite songs on it. But Daddy is meant to have a biting, satirical tone and I love the way she delivers the message in the chorus. Of course the lyrics are ridiculous, and they’re meant to be. And on Smallest man, I didn’t not think it was a dick size reference at all. That song has some really powerful emotional lines and her delivery is excellent.

Forgot to say, I do think Billie’s album is great too. I just don’t enjoy her vocal style as much and still finding myself coming back to TTPD.

I appreciate your different take! I agree that there are some emotionally powerful lines in The Smallest Man, and her delivery was strong on that song. I’m also glad you gave the Billie album a chance even if it’s not your style!
