I have followed tutorial and replaced digitiger and now touchscreen is working. I think cd player ribbon can be taken cd player itself and that will be easy. Many thanks for doing this video. I have enjoyed doing it. That is true taking head unit from car was most difficult part for me. Now, I am interested in installing usb port as my car did not come with usb. It was interesting project. Many thanks

I really appreciate your video so much! I called the dealership, and they told me just to look at it would cost $179. I told him, "Never mind, I'll fix it myself," and after watching your video, i was amazed at how much i was able to get done! The right side of the touch screen was not working at all, and i couldn't connect to bluetooth; I have a 2017 Volkswagen Jetta GLI.. this took me 4 hours to get done because i didn't plug in the sensor right the first time, but i was so determined and motivated by the comments that i wanted it fixed so bad! I believe that if i can do it, anyone can do it. Thank you a million times. My touchscreen works perfectly, and i am now able to connect to Bluetooth!!! Patience is definitely a virtue.

I'm glad you were able to replace the digitizer yourself. It really makes my day reading comments like yours. Every single one of us have it within ourselves to do tasks like this but most of the time people just lack the self confidence to do it and will just pay to have the whole thing junked and replaced spending thousands. Overall the job might seem complex but if you break it down into small sections with small tasks it is quite simple. And like you said having patience with yourself really helps. Great Job !!!!!

I do not sell the digitizer nor can I recommend a supplier. There seems to be many coming out of China now and is where I bought mine. Search Ebay or Amazon 6.5'' Touch Screen Digitizer for VW Skoda MIB STD2 682 200. There are tools on Ebay auto to make sure the digitizer fits your vehicle. Honestly for $15 I bought a couple of them thinking they may be hard to come by one day.

I have replaced the digitiser for £10 and it took me less than an hour to replace it. The instructions were very clear and you made it simple. Thanks

I don't normally comment but this was an excellent well explained well filmed video. I had the same issue in my Transporter T6 so I watched a video on trim removal for that before switching to this video. I did it in about 30 minutes just pausing as you were slightly quicker doing the screws. Each step very well explained. I had a dodgy touchscreen and also it was very slow to respond to any commands. Now working perfectly. I paid £30 for the digitiser on ebay and saved a massive job!

Just did this a few days ago on my 17 Passat. Everything seems to be working like new. I’d say it’s completely worth doing on your own compared to paying an arm and a leg for the dealer to replace. Thanks for the tutorial.

Fantastic video. I have just replaced the screen on a VW Transporter T6 2017 model with exactly the same head unit with the same issues 🥲. If you do this remember to get a Torx T9 and T6 screwdriver. Great fix for around £15. Can't believe it worked😀.

Just replaced mine, twice (or nearly so). Removed protective plastic from front and back but screen looked awful. Bought another, went to fit it and realised there was a second plastic shield which was v difficult to see. Removed that and it's all good 😅

Yes the trick seems to be finding a good supplier. I would post one in the video description but you never know if the quality is the same all the time.

Thank you so much for this tutorial. My model was slightly different (sometimes different size of screws and sometimes a few more screws at different places holding the unit together) but it was very easy to do the repair step by step. The radio / navigation system its screen wasn't responsive for 70% of the screen (right hand side) and the unit often wouldn't react anymore due to false inputs. After re-installing the unit the issue was solved for a total cost of less than 10 EUR (incl. shipping) instead of a replacement unit exceeding 1000 EUR. Thanks once more!

Your welcome!! There seems to be a few different models out there but the layout is somewhat similar like you describe. The issue remains the same though with right hand side starting out unresponsive most of the time. Great job!!

Replies to my video about peopling telling their story, like yours and others, are what make my day. So glad people are out there gaining the satisfaction of fixing their own property instead of binning it or paying through the nose having it replaced by someone else. Society is becoming a throw away and buy more culture. When I was a kid I remember when our TV or appliance broke we would take it down to the local repair shop. Now fast forward 30 years I see hundreds of flatscreen TVs down at the local recycler for example. I fixed my Plasma flatscreen a few times since I bought it in 2005 and its still chugging along. I have no real skills nor education but what I do have is curiosity of how things work and how to fix them if they break. We need to foster and promote this with the youth of this world. Peace!!!!

I replaced the screen with help of this video. Works perfect. I missed a small part in the video of putting the print plate on top of the screen. The connectors of the screen was a bit short. So i put the print on the screen outside the casing and then put it in few mm more worked great. Top video man thanxs.

Hey, just curious whether this fixes the buttons down the sides too? My screen is ghosting and changing channels on the radio, however the buttons don’t work sometimes either??! Is this simply because the screen is going mad preventing the buttons from being used? Thanks 🙏

In response to my own question; it’s because the screen is ghosting so hard that my buttons were not working! I paid £7.99 for a new digitiser, and with these instructions managed to fix my screen!!! 🙌🙌🙌🎉🎉🎉😍😍😍 Amazing video, thank you so much! 🙏🙏🙏

There isnt a hope in hell i could do this...i would lose a screw...bend something important..fall out with the missus...end up throwing the unit into next doors garden..my technical ability is aken to having my thumbs and fingers on the wrong hand...thought i was watching a episode of Star Treck....sod it a blank screen it is...i can still hear my radio, ...Luddites of the world unite.

Just wanted to say a massive thank you for making this video. I just followed it slowly and carefully and now have a fully working head unit again for the cost of £30. Much better than the £600+ for a refurbished unit. Your instructions were so clear they really gave me the confidence to give it a go and I am really happy with the result. If anyone has this same problem with their head unit, and it seems to be pretty common on this model, give the repair a go. This video tells you everything you need to know. Brilliant !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If the old digitizer is delaminating from the LCD then you might be able to remove the old digitizer completely and replace with a new one. I haven't done that yet but may be making a video about that in the future.

Just finished my repair. Few things to note about are the black and yellow ribbon cables attached to the motherboard. There’s two notches on either side of the ribbons and they need to lock into the two metal ledges located on the connector. Also, you can get away without disconnecting the trim piece. Just set it aside. Overall this repair is pretty straightforward. Take your time and don’t skip steps. I bought my digitizer off eBay for $18 and it was shipped overnight. Thanks for the video man! 20240524 - 2017 VW Jetta SEL has the same radio. Followed instructions and the touchscreen is now FIXED! Used TR8 vs TR9 on this unit. Purchased antistatic mat and torx screwdriver set with screen. Ebay screen search for "6.5inch Touch Screen Digitizer for Volkswagen 5c0035680 MIB STD2 PQ": it was $22.90. Thank you for the excellent step-by-step. I wouldn't have attempted this without it. Also, 2017 VW Jetta SEL does not have the airbag sensor attached to the panel.

Thanks for the instructions. It works great, but between cleaning the old digitizer and sticking the new one on, a speck of dust slipped in without me noticing 😩 Looks a bit strange now, you could also say individually 😆 but it saved a few hundred euros.
