I see people lifting fish out of the water from their boat all the time when there are sharks known to be in the area. I also see people revive fish from boats when sharks are around. Idk I think this should be brought up in this discussion. No reason to be making your hand an extension of fish from out of your boat when sharks are lurking.

I saw from the beach in Jeffreys bay a swimmer get eaten by a Great White. What you said about missing person holds true. If we hadnt seen it happen he could have been presumed missing because there was nothing left of him when the shark had finished.

No mention of ditching weight belt? That is the first thing to do when assisting a diver in trouble. The increased buoyancy will make everything easier. Here in South Africa me and the guys I dive with unbuckle our weight belt when ascending from a deep dive and hold the loose end. If you black out your weight belt will fall away and at least you will float greatly increasing your chance of being rescued. We also have a clip on a short lanyard attached to our belt. If we think we’ve stayed too long, you clip your weight belt to your buoy line and drop your belt greatly increasing you ascent rate. My closest call was when I overstayed a dive recovering a grouper from a cave. I wasn’t using a buoy so couldn’t clip my belt to a line. Despite this I jettisoned my belt immediately on ascent and surfaced next to the boat very shakey and with the grouper still in my hand. After a rest on the boat I used a spare belt to dive and retrieve my belt. It is a good idea to have a spare belt on the boat to reduce any reluctance to drop your belt on one of those really good days. I’ve personally known 3 guys who have lost their lives through black outs, although one of them drowned due to getting tangled in his line with a large dagga (mulloway) on his spear that had swum into a wreck. The two guys who drowned from “classic” SWB would have survived had the protocols above been followed.

I love this so much! I struggle to get new guns because there is always old men at the store telling me i cant load a gun on my hip and that the rubbers wernt designed to be changed etc. and i usually walk out embarrassed that i cant load a gun made and meant for the strength of an adult man. I have one gun a sweet old man on the west coast of aus custom made for me because he had a daughter and understood that its hard to get a good gun for women, that was 5 years ago and im looking for a new one, and can never get anyone to understand, its almost like the men who dont even spearfish are always trying to convince me to give up and go home, maybe theyre just insecure a chick is cooler than them, but its so much harder than it needs to be.

@@seanmitchell504 better trigger. Reverse mech. With metal trigger. Gives extra 10-20cm line length too. Rb shaft always rusted. At least they shouldn’t use shit plastic trigger to $2000 and $300 . Even OEM gun comes with metal reverse trigger. And useless safety, hard to use with glove on

To put it simply. You have an animal with 400 millions years of evolution. That said, it's only doing what it knows to survive. Period. You can't blame an animal for being the perfect hunter. If we were meant to be in it's domain we would have been born with webbed feet and hands. And so when we enter it all bets are off. That's NOT our world...(g)

Couldn't you sharpen a bullet tip spear using a drill and file? Remove the tip and insert into drills chuck or an adapter to protect the spears tip. Turn drill on and match angle on a file. You probably should clamp the file down.

I have had a ranger for 10 years. Zero issues. I dive big steel tanks, deep and dark water. Alot of redundant equipment we carry. Never had the air bladder issues with the U shaped design. The 2 bands are a must. 1 band bcd are about cost reduction not good diving.
