An ex chief fireman I knew, Ross, had emphesema, walk about five steps and be out of breath, wheezing. Not nice to have at all. Obviously it was the job he did that contributed to it, and he did defiantly smoke too, because he was a stubborn character, didn't take no sh*t from anyone, bless his cotton socks RIP.

@@drivefitnessuk - They're supposed to be quite good for building up cardio as they're low impact. I find them to be more reliable than treadmills, for at home workouts. They're costly however. I do 4 on 4 off and on my off days I just smash out rowing workouts, keep the old ticker going.

I left the industry in 2011, i did 22 years on general haulage. I'd had enough, even back then i noticed the job getting worse. I noticed it more because i worked for the same firm all that time, they weren't a bad firm, but the job and the company altered. Good luck in the future, you've done the right thing.
@lloydburdis12774 ай бұрын
I retired early it’s not a good industry to be in these days and I wouldn’t advise anyone to go into it. If your thinking about it remember the cost of getting that licence is Hugh so think carefully ask other drivers there option and I say this because to spend that much money and six months to a year you don’t like it or your relationship suffers this is something you should think about. However I wish anyone brave enough the very best.

Maybe the trick is to tell them what you are prepared to do. If they fire you move onto the next firm till you find one that will let you get away with it.....yes I know easier said than done but worth a try!

I Came off the artics last year mate. Went back on the school buses instead. Yeah the money on the wagons can be OK. But it doesn't compensate for the shit you have put up with. I'm on £3.50 per hour less now. But it's a hell of a lot less stressful.

Sorry to hear you had such a rough time nate what exactly was it that caused you so much stress if you don't mind my asking? Hope you're doing better pal 👍
@Skyfloats724 ай бұрын
@jameswilkinson3281 Was basically the constant pressure you are under, drivers hours, VOSA, boss wanting you to run illegally, never any sleep, loaded overweight, they fudged the weights on the manifest. In the end all got to much, and I had a total nervous breakdown. You simply cannot work the amount of hours, and be under all that pressure 24/7, for instance I now still jump if the phone rings, my own phone, yep, that job ruined me totaly.

Hi I've been reading the comments and there is not a lot of love lost about driving I have been a driver for over 40 years and I know what you mean you do get treated like rubbish but I have worked over 33 years at my last job I'm from the north but moved to worksop because of my partner I have met but let say I used to get on better with the people I was working for her and I did love driving but I have worked for some company that have been treated like a dog but It's stressful job definitely long hours never in the house but I know what you mean and you need to keep healthy and I hope you can find what you looking for and if you do go driving just do something trunk work and part time just when you want

Fair play to you for seeing the light and getting fitter before you start to get issues with your health - I no longer drive trucks' or buses' due to a breakdown in my health & retired early because of it, but like you and others' have said the way your treated especially the hours' long and very unsocial I was doing a bit of agency and starting on a Saturday and Sunday morning at 3am my body clock was shot to pieces'.

Sorry to hear about your experience at your last employer. You come across as someone who knows what they’re worth and know what their rights are. Sadly a lot of companies especially the big ones do not want that type of driver(s). They just want yes men. And that’s where the real driver shortage is, drivers who are will to be screwed over and will to work for rubbish wages. The wages are diabolical and yet we’re supposed to classed as professional drivers but yet we’re treated like scum. The only time we’re professionals is when we’re in court being prosecuted. I’m a hiab HGV driver and I’m only 66p above the living wage and it’s a joke. I too have had enough and trying to get out HGV driving as well but sadly there ain’t a lot about in my area and things are going to get worse when Kier Starmer in Prime Minister later this year. I wish you the very best of luck and give my regards to Will, Pete and Jay and get Will to put another hiab video up as I do enjoy watching them. On another note if yourself or anyone you know or subscribers even are into railways, I film everything from vintage trains to heavy freight then check out my channel as you can see in the comment and see what you think like and subscribe and send subscribers my way if anyone is interested. Best wishes and good luck 👍

Hang on a minute, I've just liked this video and before it started I was fat and happy, now I'm fat, unhappy and ignorant with it! 😉🤣🤣 You make a good point and one I found when the missus went to swimming world I lost weight too, got down to 14s 12 at my best but I did not diet, I started walking a lot more with the dog, when going upstairs I'd go up and down 10 times. That was basically it. Trouble is now have much less time, dog has passed away and when I get home at night I eat, save some footage of my day then work out my routes and destinations for the next day, then bed. I remember when I first started driving I put on weight almost immediately as I went from a very physical job including heavy lifting to sitting on my arse all day. Great message and after seeing this I'll have to make a few changes. All the best Daz hope you've had a good weekend. 👍
