The only one that is a real "con" is the fact Iowa is as close as they get to me. The heat of windows is solved by reflectix, lowering shades positioning the camper properly like you're doing really negates that. Otherwise, high quality, handbuilt smaller numbers of production are hardly cons.

Hi Ellen. It’s been a while since I’ve checked out your videos, mostly because I haven’t been in a travelling headspace these last however many months plus it turns out I subscribed before I realised that “personalised” notifications don’t mean much! Anyway, I just wanted to say that I think about you from time to time because I’m so impressed by your courage to get out there alone & share your experiences with the world, even though your channel doesn’t get the views it deserves. It took me a while to see this video so I hope homeowner life’s working out well for you. By the way, I was wondering if after your year of getting around with your rv, do you think that sacrificing space & comfort for the convenience & manoeuvrability of vanlife might’ve been a better fit for you? Hard to know, I guess. Anyway, best of luck from Sue in Australia : )

Sue! Thank you for all your sweet words! I honestly don't think a van would've been a better fit. I feel like with a van you're moving even more than you would in a trailer. Granted, it's easier to pick up and go, but man all those little decisions every day was a lot and what made this lifestyle so exhausting for me. With that being said, sitting here being stationary for a little over half a year, I'm thinking a van would be a really good thing to have for trips now. I did end up selling my truck because it was just too expensive to not be using every day, so now if I want to go camping with my trailer I have to rent a truck. Which is still way cheaper than owning a truck year-round, but it's not as easy to get out any time I want to. Sending the warmest wishes from the US!

@@boldlysheroams The decisions! I hear you on that! It does beat having to book ahead & making sure you get there every night though, for me. Vans are probably a little more tricky with a flock of cats too, so there’s that : ) Give them all a cuddle for me, all the best 🙂

Thank you so much for sharing a little part of your life with us, and thank you for sharing your beautiful kitties! I have 2 cats and I'm currently looking into giving up pretty much everything I own to buy an RV and travel around the world. I have to admit I've been nervous about traveling with 2 kitties, but it seems like there are a LOT of solo women that do, so it's been encouraging to see that I wouldn't be the only one! Best wishes to you and your fur babies!! 💜

If the tongue weight exceeds 300 lbs then I’d go with. 3/4 ton, otherwise a well equipped 1/2 ton could do the job. It is towing, not driving a sports car.

Isn't the urin in your gray water tank producing a smell, that comes out the sinks? How do you prevent that?
@boldlysheroams
@boldlysheroams Ай бұрын
It doesn't! I couldn't tell you the exact reason why, but I know even if I had kept the urine bucket on the front, the smell wouldn't come out as long as the lid is closed. It's designed like that so no urine smell escapes. But for mine, I never had any smell coming up from the gray tank!

Great information. Thinking about your wood stove. A piece of 1/8 inch mild steel plate the size you need would work as a hearth in front of your stove. It could be removable or on a hinge in front of the stove to be flipped down when not in use. I have seen these small stoves in sailboats as well. They work well.

I just found your channel and what a bittersweet moment as you transition to life off the road. I wish I had been able to watch it all in real time, but can't wait to watch all your videos now regardless. im glad to hear you ar keeping your RV and that you can have options moving forward. one idea we have had is to just go from place to place til we find the place we want our home to be. that's such a hard thing to figure out without actually spending time in places...did you ever feel unsafe solo? though not solo we are a queer couple (with a kid) and I wonder about safety. thank you so much and wishing you the best in your new home!
@boldlysheroams
@boldlysheroams 2 ай бұрын
I’m so glad you found me!! I had that same idea of going place to place to find where I wanted to be and it’s really a great way to explore and see what you do and don’t like. I don’t remember a time feeling unsafe but I put a lot of time into researching where I was going to stay so I knew it was a good spot. For example, I wouldn’t go anywhere that someone hadn’t stayed before and I’d always check apps like Campendium and the Dyrt to see what others had to say about the area. There was one spot I think in Arizona that all the reviews were mentioning how unsafe they felt so that was an easy one to say no to. I hate to say this because you’re not the problem, other people are, but I’d be wary of some places as a queer couple. I heard some people in Idaho getting threatened, so again, just lean on those reviews and maybe in those places where you’re unsure of other people (again, screw them) stick to staying in spots where other people are staying that have good reviews. I hope you and your family have the BEST adventures! You’re going to have an amazing time!!!

Do you worry about your cat in the cab of the truck being loose? If it got scared, it would go under your feet or something. Even though I did not want any more cats, I did save some litters of a mama cat the last 2 and a half years that lived outside my house. And I wouldn’t let anybody take a kitten loose in their car. It makes me sad thinking about that mom now, she disappeared. I knew she wasn’t gonna make it if she kept having kittens but PAWS were rude and they wouldn’t help me fix this cat.. it wasn’t my cat, but I fed her and found homes for her babies. The ones that lived. So this has nothing to do with RV, I know. But, please people don’t give money to PAWS if you’re a cat lover. I like them, but I’m not going to let them die. That’s how my son got two cats from her 1st litter. I got off on a rant there didn’t I?
@boldlysheroams
@boldlysheroams 2 ай бұрын
That’s valuable information, though, so rant justified! Thankfully my cats just behaved really well. One of them I was wary of so the first time I let him loose in the cab (he had been in a carrier up until that point) I had my mom riding passenger so she could monitor him and he did so well I never cooped him up again. I got lucky with my babies and they just fell asleep in the backseat or on my lap!

I just watched a video showing your RV and your three cats. You’re not gonna give it up altogether I hope. You’re right you did try it and that would be hard. Part time is good. I couldn’t live full-time like this unless I had to and I had a camper van. I have an 89 Toyota dolphin. I just bought 2 1/2 weeks ago. It’s 20 ft. It’s in good shape. Had some work done to it in 2006 on the inside and the engine, but it’s still an RV and I don’t know exactly where I can go and park.

I couldn’t imagine being in an RV with three cats. You really must like cats. It’s the cat box that give me problems. My son‘s got two cats, but they go outside. Love the woodstove. Looks like it is installed securely. Cute home young lady. My husband died five years ago., since then all five of our dogs and our two cats. That’s when I decided no more cats. But I just bought a 1989 Toyota dolphin. I’m nervous and I’ve must change some things that I can deal with it. I’m older and I wear a leg brace. I do have a dog a little Morkie named Bella. It turns out Ware. It’s too hard for me. I can always sell it. But I’m looking forward to doing the interior because I’m an artist fabric artist, and it’s gonna be a bark cloth heaven. I’ve been collecting bark cloth and new old stock bark cloth era fabrics for over a decade. Maybe I’m looking forward to decorating it more than going out in it. But that’s just nerves.

Oh man the inside of your RV is going to be so cool! Are you going to do anything special for your puppies in there? Clearly I’m a crazy cat lady and did a few things just for my cats in mine 🙂 Normal clay cat litter is AWFUL. I use wood pellets and I will never, ever go back. I don’t have that typical cat litter stink that owners who use clay litter have. Mine just smells like wood and sawdust!

Is there a smell to it? when you're using the restroom and the waste is below you like that, can you smell it or does the vent tube remove that?
@boldlysheroams

Great question! The vent tube removes the smell! The only time I could smell something was if I was outside near where the vent pushed air out and I had just recently used the toilet. Besides that, zero smell

I found your channel today while looking up stuff about living in an ORV for a year or two. I also made a huge life change last year by moving to Alaska and had to flip my life upside down again when that ended up not working out. But like you I don't regret the attempt, and I learned more about what I want and need. I was a commercial bus driver for a long time and miss the road and constant travel but also as an introvert I appreciate having a home base to go back to and recharge. Hopefully you can find that balance you want! I plan to buy my own land as a home base near friends in AK but still be able to go exploring when I want to.

@boldlysheroams 6 ай бұрын
Hi! You don't need an agitator but you do need to separate the liquids. If the liquids and solids mix, it's not really compost anymore- it's toxic waste (kept separately they are not toxic, but when they mix they are). Also, make sure your solids are able to dry out with some kind of vent and/or fan to outside. I've never heard of hemp and coffee grinds being a compost option. The two most common for toilets are peat moss and coconut coir. I love using coconut coir! Hope that helps!
