I did it the expensive way, so the figure I give you will not represent the budget method. For example, if you just get the LSD and put it in your existing carrier, it will be the price of the LSD and a few odds and ends. Maybe $1200-$1400 USD.

Lexus didn’t illuminate the upper section due to when you press the brake it will attract more attention when it’s not already lit. But cool anyway, think I’ll leave mine stock though.
@ForwardMomentum
@ForwardMomentum 6 күн бұрын
Wouldn’t you want more attention if someone was braking ahead of you? What I read is that the CFRs in the US stipulate the amount of illuminated points on the rear of each USDM vehicle at the time of manufacture and that’s incorporated into the design. Therefore these positions were not active for those reasons at that time (it would have exceeded the OEM allowable CFR, at least in the USDM) and would have been a “wasted design” to have them active.
@irishuwould5185
@irishuwould5185 6 күн бұрын
@@ForwardMomentum i agree with you. Maybe I didn’t word it clearly. Take yours and take one from the factory. Side by side people will see the one that is not lit on top far faster when a bright light comes on when applied compared to yours that’s lit all the time then a bright light comes on when the brakes are applied. A dark spot that lights up bright attracts more attention than a lit spot that’s lights up a tad more. But most modern cars now days are set up like the mod you did. I get why Lexus did that, for cost and safety.

To check the fluid level on this system you have to follow the depressurization sequence of pumping the brakes at least 25 times with the key off. Then you add fluid to the line. If you don't do this first, it will look like the reservoir is low because once the pump turns on and the system pressurizes, fluid is stored inro the accumulator. So if you fill it up with it pressurized and the vehicle sits a little while without turning the ignition on, the system will slowly depressurize and the fluid will move back to the reservoir and leak out around the cap and get all over everything. Brake fluid is extremely corrosive and a great paint remover.
@topher8634
@topher8634 9 күн бұрын
You want to make sure the system is depressurized before loosening any lines. This system stores around 2800 psi of pressurized brake fluid even if it has sat overnight. To depressurize, pump the brakes at least 25 times with the battery disconnected or at least have the ignition switch turned off. I would just disco the battery that way you don't have to worry about the brake lights or shorting something out, etc. Problematic system since the 80s on everything from BMW and Mercedes to Pontiac and Ford. Can't believe manufacturers continued to use this style of braking system into the 2000s. The domestic manufacturers ditched this style back in the early 90s and made the ABS actuator/pump assembly separate from the base power brake system. To rely on an electric pump to develop fluid pressure for power braking instead of a vacuum booster. Not to mention when the pump fails, you lose rear brakes altogether. If the pump has failed, there should be no pressure in the system. Something that you want to do on these Teves type systems is listen to how often the pump has to turn on. It should only run every 2 or 3 normal stops. ABS stops are different and the pump will run continuously during a panic stop. If you notice the pump turning on every time you press the brake or you see the ABS and brake warning lights staying on for a while after you park it for a short time, then you want to replace the accumulator. The accumulator is around $200 from Toyota, maybe more now, its been a while since I bought one. No bleeding is necessary for this service. But definitely depressurize the system prior to removing it.

I'm totally against this because don't you need some type of lubricant on your valve seals? Wouldn't that be the main reason they have gone and they're also part of the design
@ForwardMomentum
@ForwardMomentum 15 күн бұрын
Valve stem seals are designed to allow a small amount of oil to trickle down and lubricate from the top end of the engine. The PCV system and return is intended to capture (and burn off) that hot oil condensed mist. All we’re doing is collecting that mist, then emptying it, in order to keep it out of our intake tracts. Now that my car is supercharged, it’s even more beneficial to have this in place.

@ForwardMomentum
@ForwardMomentum 15 күн бұрын
I don’t know what vehicle you have, but you want the vacuum source between the MAF and TB typically, so the intake pipe is usually easiest. That goes to my bank 2 valve cover. I have another vac source after the TB (on my SC, pre-rotor actually) which goes to OCC out. Bank 1 PCV out goes to OCC in. I over-complicated everything in the vid. 🤦‍♂️
