Do you have a trick to keep the glue from blocking or hardening in the applicator?

Thank you - just saved me. Trying to glasses lens into plastic frame. hard to clamp and kept coming apart even after holding (and it looked like it took) only to come by later and find out, it came apart. I went to get my accelerator and was out of it. Made this up and waalaa, it worked instantly.

CA accelerator has two components, Main component: Lewis acid (catalyst)/ Supporting component: Evaporating agent (solvent like alcohol or acetone). I tried a little bit of baking soda in %99.9 isopropyl alcohol but no matter how much I tried to mix, I couldn't get the baking soda to dissolve in alcohol and precipitates at the bottom. Spraying with the bits of baking soda on superglue is not good. Anyway I tried it and not only it didn't work but also ruined the superglue that didn't stick anymore. I just bought the baking soda so it shouldn't have any problem and the alcohol is right... by the way cardboards don't need accelerator, since the glue can soak into it and bonds instantly.

I've used a bit too much super glue in unventilated areas in my life and now I have a sensitivity to super glue. It's to the point of, if i even inhale a little bit of the fumes I'll have mild flu like symptoms for the next two days. I also don't like commercial insta set because of the chemical smell and residue. This is the perfect solution for my ability to use super glue, it's cheap, it's easy, and convenient. That being said, to anyone who reads this, please use super glue in a well vented area. My misuse and disregard for basic safety has permanently effected how much i can enjoy my hobbies safely. And it isn't limited to just super glue as certain other chemicals that wouldn't usually effect anyone occasionally give me the same negative effects

Fantastic video. I've been trying fix a few plastic pieces that rely on a friction fit, with a small plastic ridge that fits into a guide. It used to just click and hold. But over time the small ridge gets worn away so it won't hold anymore. So I tried a little dab of just CA alone, but it takes forever to dry as there's no pressure involved. It's just a small dab of CA attempting to cure in the air. But a quick spritz with this fixes it instantly. Now they fit perfectly!! A nice solid click again! Thanks bro

This is really cool. I have been a warhammer 40k Girl plus dungeon Master since 1983. I play 5 parsecs from home and the modular inter locking walls and dividers are a fascinating addition to the battlefield. As a Mechwarrior DIVA pilot and Battletech player of 40ish years. I made hexagonal hills to coincide with the hexagonal play mats used in Battletech and have been successful. Recently reunited with 10th edition Warhammer and my army is Adepta Sororitas. As a renowned Battle Sister ready to take up arms in the 41st millennium to save humanity from the xeno threats to the Emperor, I have been literally collecting junk odds and ends from a wide array of recyclable materials to try and make various and pieces of terrain. Elevated walkways or dark claustrophobic corridors in an abandoned base or space ship. The walls terrain sci fi showcased in Me Myself and Die his 15 video series on a solo playthrough of 5 parsecs from home he used these interesting sci fi walls which if arranged in a varying fashion can give some character to any minis game. I started just looking at shapes pieces which could make some corridors. I will share when introduced to 4th edition 40k I was fascinated at the imagination of taking nothing that resembles the final product and morph and sculpt it and make it into something completely unrecognizable. I watched several videos Guerilla Wargaming do on a Necromunda playthrough and what impressed me is the square and upright supports and wall sections. I thought hmm if I could make something out of some cardboard and some toilet paper rolls make the walls out of cardboard and use the rolls as the inside of the wall using cardboard rectangular walls to serve as walls and being able to make them various lengths. I got pudding cups foam core I spent a pretty penny on and I was trying to make some cool pieces so I could have like you had said an easily storage system to maximize space. Having a shoe box of varying sci fi wall sections would be exceptionally helpful in making walls that could be arranged in corridors and room sections to create a ship layout or a base layout. Either way I wanted to use up some toilet paper rolls and use them in interesting ways. Already figured out some industrial terrain where they could resemble a pipeline of sorts. I think necromunda is interesting modular wall terrain the starter set had doors but I am not buying a Necromunda set for 120$ just to get wall sections I could probably make. If you have some ideas it would be cool. I also found the perfect supply shape for storage/supply weapons or ammo boxes. I just want to make some versatile terrain without having to pay a fortune. I have been thinking of a space ship out of an old keurig reservoir couple of Gatorade bottles as engine nacelles and then come up with some landing gear and some detailing from shapes from containers. I found some great walkways that have a natural texture from ground beef and chicken containers obviously thoroughly washed.... thing is I have limited cool pieces and I don't want to start making stuff then ending up wasting this really good materials. Some of these shapes I have built up over time. I appreciate your videos the Pringle wall sections really inspired me. If I could just use those toilet paperrolls putting cardboard for the wall sections even traced out a door.. testing a mini, 2 inches high for 28 mmish. Anyway that's all for now. Talk to you soon.

I use CA glue every day. I have the store accelerator. The proper way to use the accelerator is to spray it, get some air on it so it evaporates, and then press the piece with the CA glue on to it. Never press it when it's wet, or else the bond will be weak. I have been doing this for years, never fails. I will try this, and then report. I will spray it so it evaporates, and then press the wet on it. I hope it works, cause the chemicals in the store bought stuff is terrible if you breath it in.

Iso acts not only as a surfactant but a better solvent (more accurately, vehicle) for the baking soda as it evaporates quickly and neutralizes the acid in the CA glue -- the liquid in the glue that keeps it from solidifying nearly instantly.

The alcohol adds the moisture needed to facilitate curing but evaporates way faster than water does. Water should work just fine but may take longer to evaporate and may require the pieces to be held longer.

That was great. I would like to make one of these! I have a couple of ideas that relate to this sort of project- 1) you can sharpen knives with a ceramic rod, even little box cutters or x-acto knives. They are very inexpensive and very small. 2) Helix the brand makes safety metal rulers with rubber backing which grips your project like a dream and has a nice deep channel to guard your fingers as they assert pressure- great for very exact line cutting but also helpful for other ruler-duties :D. 3) good measuring takes me a lot of time and concentration, don't feel silly if you realise how long it's taking- it's a good indicator you are trying hard and it should come out much better.
@MiniatureMedium

Thank you, I hope you do make these. Thank you for the tips. 1. Those kitchen knife sharpeners with the 2 v slits work well too. 2. Thanks, I'll have to look into Helix rulers. I'm just using what I have at the moment but those "safety" rulers may not be a bad idea. :)

Didn't work for me...The baking soda wouldn't dissolve into the isopropyl and it didn't kick the CA any faster anyway, so I thought I'd add even more baking soda. This time the atomizer cap clogged up with baking soda... Ended up sprinkling the bk soda directly onto the glue, and it worked.

You mentioned that the card causes a fuzzy effect when it's painted. A mixture of mod podge and black paint may be able to help with that (I think, haven't used card before admittedly. Still in the dollar store foam board phase). The mod podge also helps with making the card more rigid as well.
@MiniatureMedium
@MiniatureMedium Жыл бұрын
That is one of the most fun phases to be in. Yes I believe mod podge would have prevented that. I have used it since and it does work with card too but can cause warping worse than foamcore. Now that it is done and I've seen it on a table during play, I am not concerned. The wanna-be perfectionist in me was upset by the fuzziness. Also I'm sorry for the late reply, I've unavoidably away for a while.

At first I would like to thank you for sharing this video! I would like to ask you two questions... 1. Can I use ethanol alcohol instead of isopropyl? 2. Does this accelerator reduce the bonding strength?
@MiniatureMedium
@MiniatureMedium Жыл бұрын
Thank you! 1. I'm not sure about ethanol alcohol instead. I don't imagine it would work any differently. I'd recommend looking up any adverse reactions between the two before committing. 2. In my tests, with lightweight materials and objects, it holds up just as strong as if using just superglue. If this was being used for a woodshop application, I'd recommend it along side your typical wood glues. Using the super glue and accelerator as the initial bonding agent while the wood glue has a chance to dry. I apologize for the late reply. I have been unavoidably away for a while.
