You mean "UPS" (Uninterruptible Power Supply). This is because they are not only batteries, but their most important function is to provide higher quality electrical energy, filtering voltage rises and falls and eliminating harmonics. Outlets without a battery are still filtered and protected from these problems for electronic equipment
