Is it just me or does cables down seem better?
@CoasttoCoastOutdoorAdventures7 күн бұрын
I have never been with the cables up, so I can’t say. Judging by the videos I’ve seen of the cables up, I would think it is better with the cables down. Thanks for watching!

Dude! That is insane! Your camera angles really helped show how steep it is - and I have zero doubt it's more terrifying in person! I can't wait to get out there! LOL I just found your channel - Great job with the editing! National Park Service announced there was horrible accident there today (7/25/24).

We could barely get out of the truck, much less walk when we got to Doug’s.

How does the harness work in case of a slip when there are no rails to stop? Like wouldnt the harness and you slide down without a stop?
@CoasttoCoastOutdoorAdventures11 күн бұрын
So we used a climbers not called a prusik loop. In the event you slipped, the knot would stop you from falling when tension is applied.

Way back in 1987 my girlfriend and I did this hike. Halfway up the cables, she chickened out. I was the only person up there the entire time. Didn't see another soul until I got back down the cables. Most of the boards were missing. Every time after that visit it was more crowded until my last time in 91 it was a solid train of people up and down the cables. I went down the southwest side quite a bit down towards the falls. Steep but the rock face is very grippy. No permits were needed back then. The 87 hike was followed by the Upper Yosemite Falls hike then Glacier Point. 3 consecutive days of brutal hikes. It seems most places require permits these days due to the crowds.
@CoasttoCoastOutdoorAdventures24 күн бұрын
Yes, mass crowds definitely bring regulation which is why we went when the cables were down. Less crowds, there was no more than a couple dozen people at the base of the cables and only a few people at the top. Thank you for watching!
@SequoiaX25 күн бұрын
How Funny, do many people tie themselves to the cables? I did it in April with much more snow and didn't see anyone tying to the cables. I have also climbed it in the summer - it is much easier with the cables down.
@CoasttoCoastOutdoorAdventures25 күн бұрын
Some people will go up with no harness, others only clip in with carabiners. I chose a prusik loop for security in case a slipped. To each their own. Thanks for watching!

What is this useful to me. I need to obow how it feels on back, how it is ajustable and if you feel any hot spots while you hike. If the pading is supportive an does not rub and is not too hot and so on.
@CoasttoCoastOutdoorAdventures29 күн бұрын
Thank you for watching. For me, this pack carries very comfortably, even with 50 pounds. It’s fully adjustable and the padding is very supportive. For me, there are no hot spots or rubs. I’m 5’7/185 pounds.

Why do they take the cables down ? Nice video btw; thanks for sharing!
@CoasttoCoastOutdoorAdventuresАй бұрын
They lay the cables down in the off season. Instead of being propped up on rails, the cables are just lying on the granite. You don’t need a permit during this time.
@seanspangler7385Ай бұрын
Because people are dumb and will try to climb the rock when its Icy.
@CoasttoCoastOutdoorAdventuresАй бұрын
@@seanspangler7385 great point, even though you can climb during the off season, there is a lot of snow and ice. Definitely use caution. If you do go during the off season, late spring, just before the park installs the rails is best because most of the snow and ice has melted.

I'm in the market for a new chair and have been drawn to the Chair zero because of its pack size. I have limited space on my motorbike so in many ways the pack size is more important than the weight, and those chair zeros pack down really small. I went to a local shop to have a look at them and was really surprised at the quality of them, very low weight and pack size. I've had 3 cheap chairs from amazon now and they've all been ok, one of them broke, but the quality of the Helinox chair I looked at recently has convinced me they are worth the extra money - very low weight and pack size plus the quality have seduced me I think!
@CoasttoCoastOutdoorAdventuresАй бұрын
The Helinox is an awesome chair by far, but I have had my chair now for going on 3 years and have had no issues. It’s only 3 more ounces than the Helinox and $35. Let me know ow if you have any questions or if there is something I can help you with. Thanks for watching!

Where all the Europeans with their funky shoes 😂. Last time I noticed the lady in front of me wearing ducks. Such an odd choice of footwear for this event I thought to myself. Seconds later, she was sliding off the face of the rock away from me. She got lucky and the guy behind me had really long arms. Where the hell is everyone? We usually walk on the outside of the rails because they’re too many people holding us up. Still looks beautiful.🎉

The one thing that is kind of cool of cables down is that the lack of posts means that you can use a prussik for a bit of safety. Looks like you had really nice weather for it.

What difference ..cables up and cables down...?
@CoasttoCoastOutdoorAdventuresАй бұрын
When the cables are up, the park installs metal post drilled into the rock that lifts them up about 3 feet off the surface along with boards that lay across the post. It makes it a lot easier to climb and the boards give you a place to stand and rest.

Just finished the dome last week with cables up. The hard part is the distance combined with significant elevation gain. Exhausting. Temperatures were in the low 90's. Bring no less than 3 liters of water with a plan to filter and refill additional water in the Merced River near LYV camp on the way up and down. Nice video.
