Not get into to all the nuance but I believe snowboarding is simply harder at all levels, after all you simply have one less edge, if you make a mistake with it you will end up on your butt. As to the misconception its because the following: 1. A single weird quirk made amateur snowboarders for ever more comfortable in steeper terrain then skiers. The motion for stopping a snowboard is one of the strongest kinetic alignments in all sports with feet apart, a slight squat, pressure even, facing down hill. Similar to a judoka or a Olympic weightlifter. This leads to many a snowboarder getting to and around steep terrain after a few days on the board that most skiers wouldn't dream of. So you have two riders one can "ride" blacks after a couple days ( the boarder) the other is stuck on greens (the skier) obviously its been mastered by the boarder! 2. Snowboarders are slightly more athletic, not so much by demographic but because of the initial challenge. We all know a few people who tried it and after struggling so very much to get their body to do the boarding thing switched to skiing. 3. Mentality, for many reasons snowboarders generally think of their sport differently. As someone who has gone to advance/expert lessons at many resorts its rare to ever see a boarder at one of those type classes if they even have them. Boarders are simply not putting in the time to get better and don't even realize how far they are from mastering their sport. I can go on and on but this is couple reasons

I don't know about K2, but Burton boots for Step-On are much stiffer than normal ones... more like ski boots, tbh.

im a skier and ive given up on trying to prove that skiing is harder. Snowboarding is wayyyyyyyyy harder. to master is very contrivercial, for me, to master skiing is to be able to do a double cork but for someone else it may be skiing moguls in a certain time.
@hanrahi9030
@hanrahi9030 23 күн бұрын
It is definitely true that skiing is difficult to master. Seeing the way you were riding those skis, you are an extreme exception. In fact, I would discard you from the statistical sample as such an unlikely outlier that counting your performance would skew the sample badly. I do both skiing and snowboarding and started with both just 3 seasons ago for the first time in my life. On a snowboard, I can already carve and ride down double blacks, but can't handle moguls. I am also able to do simple jumps. On skis, I still haven't been able to carve, maintain narrow stance a I am able to do simple jumps on skis. On skis, I have actually torn my ACL once and damaged the MCL on the same leg, and haven't fully recovered yet. In contrast, there were zero serious injuries with snowboard. Did get a few tailbone aches though. In summary, your performance is unusually good for a first time skier. Most normal skiers spend 5 to 10 years trying to master it. The average skier can go their entire life skiing at a high beginner level and never noticing the difference.

I lived in Chile and rode Valle Nevada several times. Sadly you have to go up and down a gnarly road to get there and accommodations are crazy expensive and sparse. I’ve always wanted to get over to the resorts in Argentina however. Been to Patagonia several times, just never in winter.

Seen enough people bang their heads on the snow this year and this is my first full season, 48 days. Just started last season with 6 days. I would have had more if not me slamming the back of my head twice in a row 3 days apart near the beginning of the season. My neck and shoulders was stiff for over a month. I don't think I'm even fully recovered. So yes, helmets are going to save heads no matter what. Just let the people decide if they want to or not. Twice saw two guys laying in the snow dazed cause they didn't wear helmets. The current most memorable one is one teenage kid was with a bunch of friends hitting a roller that was pretty steep. I was chilling in the snow resting my legs. I look around and his friends were huddled around him. His face was dazed and it took a good few mins for him to get it all together. No helmet just a beanie. Goggles were flung off his face and beanie in hand. The adrenaline and friends being around probably got him conscious enough to ride safely down. Mind you this was on a green run at Northstar.

I just turned 49. I've skied for years, and just gave snowboarding a try for the first time this year. I've gone twice so far. Not once did I feel the need to sit in the snow to strap in after my initial strap in. I sat down for that one because I had no idea what I was doing. Now I've got my first setup, a Jones Mountain Twin, 32 lashed double BOA boots and Union Force Bindings sitting in my closet waiting for their maiden voyage next winter. Probably the main thing that sucks about east coast living... The very short snow season

I think I learned most of this in the countless classes I took in the 2000s, but wanted a refresher and this delivered. New info to me was to push against the rear binding with your back foot. I’m going to start every session going forwards with a bit of one footed push and glide and stops. Thx!

I'm glad you put park and summit into different categories because I'd say I'm intermidiate/advanced at park features, and by the requirements here maybe advanced/expert at summit riding. But one thing that should be talked about in this video is stamina, where I live I mainly ride small mountains with short runs and get a break from the punishment of a powder run or choppy snow within minutes. Whenever I go to a bigger mountain I'll find myself gasping for breath halfway through the run; and that's where you realize that no matter what tricks you have locked in on the rails, no matter how many rotations you can get on a jump, or even what variety of conditions you've rode in, snowboarding takes just as much of a degree of athletic training as any other sport if you wanna go big.

Never understood why they weren't more widespread, but the Flow-like bindings offer the best of both world : Fast, standing-up, while-already-riding get in ; and strap support and adjustable stiffness. (seems like the new supermatics are good in this area too)

Burtons are totally different… and high backs work on Burtons…. I’ve modified them with longer screws to get immediate back edge… and have never come out of bindings… I’ve not went 50’ because I’m almost 50 and broken up a bit but Burtons work can speak on others…

i disagree with ollie'ing off a kicker - the kicker is already sending you up, and ollie'ing off the lip increases your chances of being in the back seat. Just my 2 cents, otherwise, awesome vid.

great video - i've seen from other tutorials that popping off the jump with both feet isn't necessarily a bad thing as long as your nose if past the lip. Popping with both feet off the lip can bring some stability, would you agree or no?

the main reasons i dont swich to step ins is i think spending that much on something "clever" that is supposed to do the same thing isnt worth it, i like union binding and they dont make step ins, i like being able to ajust the responsiveness of my bindings due to how much i ratchet them, and i dont really care if putting on my snowboard is more convenient. they are cool they just don't seem worth the switch
