Interesting. It looks like those are functionally the same as the pins which seized on the Forth Road Bridge in Scotland, fracturing the truss end links and almost causing a disaster. It's a very similar suspension bridge built in the 1960s. They rebuilt the truss ends to be supported on a bearing pad (attached to the tower) below the truss, so that it's fail safe.
