KZfaq recommended this and well done its algorithm. I used to live about 20 mins from Fukuari and went to as many games as I could (given I worked Saturdays). It's a great wee stadium, as noted in the video, every seat has a cracking view of the pitch. I was at the Nabisco Cup Final in 2006 to see Jef lift their second league cup and remember it well. Good video, I'm now going to explore your other ones.

I have been searching for this and stumble upon your video. Thank you. I knew JLeague from Winning Eleven at early 2000s, so i am familiar with the original JLeague teams but can't understand how they get the name. They sound so unique and catchy. Now i understand.

Yokohama Marinos hasn’t been relegated since 1982. Shimizu is a franchise team since they never competed in JSL.

They seem cool I’m torn between what club to support I love Japanese culture so I’m thinking Cerezo Osaka Cause the cherry blossom 🌸 in the logo but they haven’t one anything since the 80’s so idk there I like Kashiwa Reysol cause the black & yellow is cool and the name meaning but they seem like a mid table J1-League league that gets relegated too and cause I’ve seen highlights I know of Shimuzu S-Pulse and I like the name meaning & or Vissel

Just realized the situation with the Yokohama Flugels fracturing into Yokohama F-Marinos and Yokohama FC somewhat resembles the one that happened to the NHL's Minnesota North Stars fracturing into the Dallas Stars and Minnesota Wild.

It's too easy to blame the high turnover of players as main reason for the downfall. The fact is that during their last stint in J1, most players who actually made minutes on the pitch were over 30 and manager Sorimachi didn't succeed in bringing new young players. On top of that, a relegated team almost always sees its best players leave. I was never a fan of Sorimachi's playing style which was pretty defensive and depended on one target striker (Funayama, Takasaki). That might have been fine in J2, but J1 is traditionally a league that awards more forward thinking styles of playing. A renewal of both staff of players was both necessary as it was fated. I saw the first game under manager Nuno in 2020 and I didn't think it was half that bad. New and younger players tried to have more ball possession and play the long ball less. Unfortunately, Nuno rotated both his players as his system constantly to the annoyance of pretty much everyone. He still had very good players at his disposal, I'm just thinking about Ryo Takahashi, Taro Sugimoto and Serginho. It was clear that they stayed to fight for promotion, but Nuno never formed a typical team nor playing style. Point in case: when Shibata took over, he immediately looked for a typical format and got his team from - I don't exactly remember - position 22 to 15 with a span of something like 7 or 8 games without defeat. Too bad for Shibata, Nuno had already ruined the 2020 season, so most players with the potential to fight for promotion left the club disillusioned for J1 clubs or top half J2 clubs. I felt for Shibata as he suddenly had a completely different and inexperienced team at his disposal. I found his dismissal unfair as Matsumoto did fight and played reasonably, they just couldn't score any goals. His replacement manager Nanami was again of Nuno - level: extremy disappoiting. While most fans still had hope under Shibata, Nanami was never really accepted as manager. You just needed to look at the curve of the form of the team. Under Shibata Yamaga FC was struggling, but with conviction. Under Nanami the team was as spineless as a sponge. Relegation to J3 was inevitable and it's due to the lack of fighting spirit that many fans were alienated from their club. The decision to keep Nanami on in J3 was - to me - incomprehensible. To his credit, the results were ok. The play never was though. Yamaga FC was able to keep key players like Kazuhiro Sato, Takayuki Mae (who perhaps wisely left mid-season), Ryo Toyama and Masato Tokida and had some good incoming transfers like the return of Paulinho, goalkeeper Victor or Yota Shimokawa back from loan. Nanami never really used these players to their potential. Also, every crucial game - against teams positioned 16th, 17th or 18th! - were hopelessly lost. So despite being at 2nd or 3rd place for most of the season, most fans never actually believed in promotion in 2022. So for me, more than a turnover in players, the real problem of Matsumoto Yamaga FC is the inability to find a decent head coach. Sorimachi wasn't my favorite coach, but he inspired players to fight and got results. Nuno and Nanami were horrible miscasts and Shibata never really got the chance he deserved. Unfortunately, with the appointment of manager Masahiro Shimoda, things don't seem likely to change in 2023. Shimoda has some horrible managerial statistics and seems to be more busy making buddies than with his job as coach. With players like the aforementioned Sato and Toyama, the revelation Ayumu Yokoyama and the eccentric Paulo Junichi Tanaka leaving, the team faces extra challenges especially in the attacking compartment (almost good for half of the goals scored in 2022). I am the first one to hope that I'm wrong about Shimoda and would love to see Matsumto Yamaga FC return to J2, turn several stable years and then compete again for J1.
