The upside down bit does nothing. It’s a leftover from 100 years ago and different style jar. In fact, the two piece metal lid continues to exhaust as it cools, upright, forming a better seal.

Really helpful, thank you! I have a very healthy one and I’m wondering if I need to repot it. Basing this on the amount of foliage vs the size of the pot. Although it seems happy and has new growth I just feel like it’s time..? Any thoughts on when to repot?

I have many stalks but their leaves turn yellow. Mine is outdoors in FL. It has gotten a lot of rain recently. Will it come back? Should I do some cuttings-they have gotten to be tall and are mostly just stalks.

Hello. I live in Maryland, USA, and received seeds in the mail from my Aunt who lived in Florida approximately 50 years ago. I have 2 of theoriginal plants that produced seeds about 5 years ago. Grew 2 plants from those seeds up until last year when one died. Fortunately, one of the original trees has again produced a seed which is dangling from it and I'm not sure if I should wait till it falls off or should I pull it off? I can't remember what I did last time. It is 1:00 pm EST. Thank you. Gina

Had to respond because of how familiar this is... I also live in MD, and my mother living in Florida has the happiest one of these plants I've ever seen, it would be a tree outside of her house if she didn't cut it back now and then. The bush drops seed pods and she digs them up and pots them to give to friends. which is how I have mine :) I can't comment for sure, but it seems like you should wait until they fall off based off my mother's experience.

I have been growing these successfully for a few years now, regularly dividing and giving away. I always grow them outdoors and overwinter them in a cold greenhouse. In recent weeks two massive ones have succumbed to a fungus and completely collapsed and I think there is no alternative than to bin them and start again. I guess they are probably not so susceptible to this when grown in doors.

I’ve not struggled with fungus personally, but wonder whether taking out the bulbs and storing them for a few months might help?

Fantastic update! Glad to hear you're feeling better, good for you for talking about it. Damn those cows! I like cows but that's so dispiriting. Hope you can resurrect the greenhouse. If you find your outdoor seedlings and baby plants are getting munched by snails put a ring of crushed eggshells around them, they can't slide over them. We tried copper tape around pots but it doesn't seem to work so well. I took an ash down about a month ago from the bottom of my garden, it's a surprise how much light it's let in. I estimate it to be 10 years old, much thinner than yours - but they do grow quickly.
@FlorenceOzkan
@FlorenceOzkan 2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I’ve forgiven the cows, don’t worry 😂 I thought they were so we saved a load of Guinea fowl shells (super tough) but it’s ended up being some sort of beetle… I’m not too worried as they only go after a few lettuce leaves. Oooh, has it taken you a while to get used to it with the new light? I know I’m in for a shock 😳
