Hope I can ask your advice on paint thickness. I use floetrol and decoart 3:1 /water for consistency for mixing. BUT I literally have never had distinctive colored layers as you get. Im good on a flat canvas but pouring over glass just messes me up. Would you say the density of the paint on glass is thicker then canvas alone? Trying to find an answer. This piece is stunning! Thanks for sharing with us.
@ArtbyBrooke24 күн бұрын
I personally would skip the water for glass and mix a little thicker than you would for canvas. Canvas has a bit of a rougher and more absorbent surface so the paint flows slower, but on glass it can slide across much easier. Water might make the mixture too thin which will cause colors to mix too much and get muddy. I like to start with a general ratio of paint to Floetrol (I think I usually do 2:1 Floetrol to paint), and then test the consistency to see if I need to add a little more of either. DecoArt is already thinner than a heavy body thick paint so you likely shouldn't need water (though people at different elevations may find that to change a bit for them). I show the consistency I like here: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/m5iad7h3v9DGc30.htmlsi=7oFxU72EKIWK90iF but I would make it a little thicker than that for glass. I hope this helps! Feel free to ask any other questions :)

I does!! There are so many factors that play into each pour and each surface. Down to the size of the cup to thickness of each layer. Thanks for offering tips!! Keep pouring!!

I have used (and liked) Rustoleum Crystal Clear Enamel spray, like this: amzn.to/3Xh3gLN (an affiliate link, I make a small commission off of purchases). You would need to spray it on the outside, and be sure to hand wash the inside of the glass only because I don't believe it's dishwasher safe. You can usually find it or something similar at local hardware stores :)

Not sure if you've seen them, but I have seen a lot of artists produce Sticker Books! They look like a Journal or Sketchbook, but the pages are sticker paper instead of regular paper. I have one, and it's how I collect all of my stickers from Art Markets, Trades, Fests, Conventions, etc. You can stick the stickers in there and then move them around within the journal or take them out when you're ready to stick them on something. I highly recommend getting one!!

How do you get it so shiny
@ArtbyBrookeАй бұрын
It's really shiny in the video because it's all still wet paint. But when they're dry I like using Rustoleum Crystal Clear Enamel gloss spray ( like this: amzn.to/3V0HWIQ ) on the vases (you'll need to carefully hand wash most likely) and Liquitex varnish ( like this: amzn.to/4bi00nz ) on the canvas. Those are affiliate links and I do make a small percentage off of sales through them at no additional cost to you. But you can also find the spray at local hardware stores like Lowes or Home Depot, and the Liquitex Varnish at art stores like Michaels.

Olá boa noite. Está técnica de pintura poder ser aplicada em vasos de cimento?.
@ArtbyBrooke2 ай бұрын

Awesomeness I just hate the waste
@ArtbyBrooke2 ай бұрын
I understand where you're coming from but there doesn't have to be a lot of waste! I have saved the dried runoff to make jewelry with, or used the excess on other paintings. I have seen a lot of other artists do other things with it too. In addition, the paint itself is mixed with a paint conditioner, in my case I use Floetrol, which basically thins it out and makes it so you don't use as much paint. It helps the paint move and then dry slower but is also much cheaper than if I had used that much of pure acrylic paint.

The smell and the sticky after drying you describe sounds like gloss Mod Podge lol. Maybe a light dusting of corn starch with a really soft Dollar Tree makeup brush, would work a wonder like it does on JJ and papers/decopage and other coated with gloss Mod Podge stuffs. 🙂

I loved this video and I tried it today. How long do you have to wait before you can varnish or epoxy the vase?
@ArtbyBrooke5 ай бұрын
To be on the safe side, I'd wait at least two weeks (especially for any kind of resin) but for sure you want the bottom of the vase to be completely dry since that part is usually where the paint is pooled thickest.

Okay perfect! I would love to do another dollar tree pour, but in the meantime, I was following this tutorial: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/Y82kn7ybxJq6Y2g.htmlsi=bwOTLyKbdG9nmqY9 where it tells you to slowly add water into the tacky glue while mixing until the consistency is like warm honey flowing off of the popsicle stick. The ratio for that will change depending on the humidity, temperature, and possibly elevation of where you live so you unfortunately will have to go by feel.

So how do you get the paint to stick to tha glass after it done? When I get them wet the paint peels off
@ArtbyBrooke6 ай бұрын
You have to seal it with something after. I have used Rustoleum Crystal Clear Enamel but you will only want to wipe it with a damp rag to clean it. If you want to be able to clean it a little more rigorously you may need to look into something more like a resin.
