I almost fall into the idea of mastering every style that I can, because as a composer that would mean more clients to me. But after a period of reflection, I realized I don't want to become what every clients want, but I want them to hire me for the musician I am

Like in every area of life, some people need to taste a bit of everything before engaging into a single field. Either by choice or opportunity.

My problem is perfectionism and option paralysis I think its called, the thing is most musicians I love make the simplest types of music, Its crazy that me as a musician I want to write the 10th symphony instead of just doing the track beat that could make they world move their asses in a happy way, or create the raw garage rock song that could make an audience no matter the size go insane in a mosh pit, yet as Ive spent years trying to create the 10th symphony LMAO.. enought of that.

Kind of a different backgroung, but as a science student just about to hand in a grad school application that implies learning much more than what i"m really passionate about, i'm thinking genAI is a great tool to just 'grab what you need'. I know i reallistically can't have all the programming background an IT graduate will for example, but having this toolkit of just a lot of summed up human knowledge made so accessible gives me hope to delwe into what i really care about while still being able to do more than my learnt skills should let me. Maybe this applies to music too, or to anyone who's peering in from outside the field like me.

I agree 100%. This is been my story till now and it spoiled the pure joy of making music of the beginner. The key word you said is "identification",,when you start wanting to be another person (your hero probably) and you set the bar that's where the problems begin

Thank you so much for your word! As an ADHD person, I tend to want to be and do everything, and it's very hard to focus on one thing because I need to feed my toxic enthusiasm... hehehhe Thank you, thank you! I now decided I'll pursue a particular style to be really good at instead of forcing myself to learn every style and waste time not creating my own stuf. Thank you!

Beautiful playing! What PA speakers are you using there? Or perheps the hospital has speakers? I am looking for speakers for gigging with digital piano/keyboard, and I wonder how big/loud speaker we need for a place like that? Or are there multiple speakers all around that arear you are playing? Thank you for your help, I hope you have a nice day!

I bought that book back in 2001, read it loved it, internalized it and then at some point forgot all about it‘s existence. I had a mild shock seeing the book cover in your thumbnail. I don‘t understand how I could forget about a book that so completely changed my outlook on life!

🙏🏻 Thank you for this question. My little humble opinion would be that knowing oneself is the most valuable experience and so listening to the music that comes out of oneself ( the original music) is way more interesting that the one coming into oneself from the outside, from others. 🌱☘️🍀✨🎶

I think by trying to get good at multiple things you can allow yourself to more freely express your visions by having less limits on your abilities. A broader pallet can also give you a greater insight on how to communicate an idea to someone else if you’re collaborating on a project. It’s just important to make the distinction of what matters most to you via your skillset and current explorations, consistently reminding yourself why you even started doing this in the first place. For example, I now make a large portion of sounds in my music, but that doesn’t necessarily make the song better because of that. It can allow me to make sounds that resemble the sonic characteristics I was looking for in that moment. Alternatively, fun and unexpected things can happen with the happy accidents, pressing some strange button that can take the project in a whole other direction or give me insight about how a sound I’ve previously heard was created (granted you can still achieve this from scrolling through presets.) These happy accidents can inspire really cool abstract flow states, but again it’s a choice to choose if I want to go down that alternate avenue or just stick to the original idea - and there is nothing wrong with either approach. But at the end of the day I remind myself that I didn’t make the song to make the sounds. I made the sounds to make the song.

So to make sure I'm understanding the way I should, the key takeaway is that the ego in music comes into play when you think you have to be good at everything in order to function. So the appropriate response is to try and reign that in a bit, then focus on your primary goal(s), then take what you need and not much outside of that. Right?
@InnocentAbyssinianCat-eb7ge3 ай бұрын
Everyone has an ego it's about being concious about having a balance of realising you always have something in front of you to learn but also have an awareness that music especially in the western world has a very competitive environment where not all around you aren't humble and even can fake humility and even undermine what you have actually learned over the years defend yourself against that but don't get bogged down in it because it will hold you back on what you need to focus on which is self improvement both as a musician and as a person where you have to keep separated in a sometimes very competitive environment
