The letters from Pliny the Younger, who was a 17-year-old boy who lived along the Bay of Naples at the time of the eruption. The letters were addressed to a historian named Tacitus. Thank you for watching!

Incredibly, when the Titanic was built in 1912, it was the biggest ship in the world and the largest man-made moving object on earth. It sailed for just four days before sinking. It was a fascinating story to research and try to bring to life. I'm always trying to improve the videos I create. All feedback is appreciated! Thank you for watching!

I do not mean to be rude but the video gets a little confusing mate. There are ssveral points were you switch from describing the events as a narrative snd suddenly switch into quotes from ceasers journal. In future videos, would it be better to describe the event in question. After narrating the event yourself, you could then say how Ceaser personally described the events and his feelings etc. Otherwise its an very descriptive video and the associated slides really captured the era. Great video despite the criticism and definitely worth the sub.

Thank you, my friend, for taking the time to comment and giving feedback! It helps me a lot in creating better videos. I totally understand what you're saying. You weren't rude at all!! It's in the description for the video and I also put it in the video before he begins to tell the tale. Every single word you hear is written by Caesar himself. Caesars wrote down his tales of conquest in the book "Commentaries on the Gallic War." He tells the tale as a THIRD PERSON Narrative. Very unique...and a bit confusing if you don't know that. Heres a good summary: "While we say that the Gallic Wars were written by Caesar, they were really written by the scribes. The thesis of this paper is that they used the third person singular to refer to Caesar, since they were taking down dictation and would not use “I/we,” as they were not the ones who had done the action. This use of the third person is attested to in Greek authors, and Caesar obviously was pleased with how it sounded; while he had the last word on the subject, it’s the scribes who deserve the credit for style." - Ruth Breindel Thanks again for subscribing! When, ultimately, was Londinium founded? Was the founding of Londinium essentially the founding of what would eventually become modern England ?
@Eyewitnesstohistory20 күн бұрын
It played a part. It laid abandoned for 400 years until the Saxon king Alfred of Wessex reestablished it. The real credit should start with him. It was founded around 50-47 A.D. as a trading port colony for Rome. There was a small settlement there previously before Emperor Claudius came to the area in the first century A.D....Nothing more than a few huts. Boudica burnt it to the ground in 61 A.D during the Celtic rebellion, it was re-established as a military base and the population grew to 60,000 people around the end of the first century. Then eventually abandoned in the 5th century.

All sounds a bit of a shambles. What numbers of men are we talking about here? Can't be a lot - probably similar to Margate in 1964.

On his first invasion yes, it was only a couple legions. The second invasion was terrifying to the Celts when they saw the massive entourage coming.....This is a good description from Wikipedia. "In the course of his Gallic Wars, Julius Caesar invaded Britain twice: in 55 and 54 BC. On the first occasion, Caesar took with him only two legions, and achieved little beyond a landing on the coast of Kent. The second invasion consisted of 800 ships, five legions and 2,000 cavalry. The force was so imposing that the Celtic Britons did not contest Caesar's landing, waiting instead until he began to move inland. Caesar eventually penetrated into Middlesex and crossed the Thames, forcing the British warlord Cassivellaunus to pay tribute to Rome and setting up Mandubracius of the Trinovantes as a client king. The Romans then returned to Gaul without conquering any territory."

Huh? The pyramid comes from the Greek word pyramis. Which translates to wheat cake.
@Eyewitnesstohistory2 ай бұрын
The word pyramid is derived from the Greek words PYRAMIS and PYRAMIDOS. The meaning of the word Pryamis is obscure and may relate to the shape of a pyramid. The word Pyramidos has been translated as “Fire In The Middle”
