Is there a way you can move the hinges around to the entrance side so that you can inspect from behind without standing in front of the bees entrance?

I thought the point of having those slats above the frames was that you don't remove all of them at one time.

Remove some of those frames so they dont have to protect so much without the work force add a follower board with a small space for them to crawl under to the empty space, only leave the one entance open do not have 2 open entrances

Great video I found on my long lang when I opened up another entrance. The queen starting laying near the new entrance,brood both ends of the hive a little harder to manage brood frames

I did that yesterday.. I found eggs and larvae in the bottom brood box and in the center of the brood .. It was a relief to see eggs but she sure isn't running wild and laying yet..

If the nectar flow slowed down try feeding them. Usually kicks the queen in high gear.

I used an empty box, grabbed each frame, walked 20ft away while brushing the bees off, and put the frames in the box. Only 110 times 😂, took forever. I still got about 100 bees in the house.

Peppermint sprigs or oil on the legs of the stand will drive the ants away. Good looking hive though!

There is probably 2 holes drilled on the end or somewhere on the hive where those rods can be inserted for using as a frame rest? I did that on my hives and i put 2 dowels in when I inspect so I can set my first frame in there and not on the ground....Again, glad to see the hive thriving, good update.

Can I suggest dribbling a bit of melted wax in first. This gives the bees something to hang the comb off. Possibly why it hasnt worked for you previously.

@@BeeRexBeekeeper Just found it! 🙂 I am doing it with mine in the Uk, I use 1lb & 12oz jars. Ive sandwiched 2 pieces of ply together. 1 has a bigger hole than the other. I have a depression to sit the jar in - and it will also take varying jar sizes that way. I kept the circle cut out and added a screw and nut so I can add or remove them when i replace a jar.

Sorry for your loss Amigo.. My main hive I was planning on splitting at least a couple of times swarmed yesterday evening .. MAYBE I had a little luck and caught them in a trap.. Guess we'll see this morning.. Keep trying Amigo !! Bees do what bees do ..

Just because they swarmed doesn’t mean you can’t split. You should have a lot of queen cells on a bunch of frames. I’ve had around 30 cells before in one hive. Good luck

My fist swarm ever was about 4 weeks ago and I just checked today and my new queens have eggs, larva and capped brood in the 2 hives i have.

@BeeRexBeekeeper yeah I had to split hive #2 for hive #1 cause #1 was a queenless removal and within a week of having the queen less hive #2 swarmed on me with 5 queen cells so I split the cells between both hives and managed to make a queen and mate it.

OK Amigo , It looks like the year is well on it's way for you.. Here we're having the spring gloom and temps hanging around the mid 50s Not good bee working weather .. How happy are you with the long hives ?? I'd like the convenience but am concerned about the bees usage of it... We don't have the honey flow you do..

It’s my first full year for the long hives so I don’t really have an opinion yet. I hear they are a brood factory and not much of a honey producer. The weather is nice here…. For now. Soon I’ll be 90’s and miserable for beekeeping.
