This is a great scene but a little bit of the acting is overdone. We’re Gus Grissom stands up and screams “Go hot dog, goooooo!!!!!” never actually happened and was just a dramatic flourish. Gus Grissom was very introverted and shy and probably never got that outwardly excited in public. Also the wild applause inside the control center during launch was a little hokey, overdramatic nonsense but I guess it adds to manipulate the viewer’s emotions and drum up the excitement of seeing the film. Not complaining, just saying it’s a little extra.

Carpenter won that contest and the longest over shoot of your landing zone.

Above the dome is an ocean that’s why the sky is blue. The Dome is called the firmament (Genesis chap 1.). You can do an experiment. We were all taught in school that the earth is spinning at 1000mph. That speed is faster than a bullet. So if this is true and I jump up and leave the surface of the earth I should be in a different area. But when you jump up you land in the same spot. You said when we were in school we never questioned any of this.
