You 100% need it to use a UHF radio, but most people don't get the license for whatever reason. It's a misconception that if the radio is under 2W you don't need it. It will need a base. Either Base and Rover setup or a RTK Network Base. Both would be known points.

Can the viDoc photos/coordinates be used in any photogrammetry software (after the initial collection with Pix4Dcatch)? In other words -- can the device still be used without a Pix4D subscription, by exporting all images/coordinates captured with Pix4Dcatch?

Pix4Dcloud and Pix4Dmatic are recommended to process raw data from the viDoc. This is because they utilize both the images and LiDAR depth data to process. Other photogrammetry softwares would only take in the jpeg images.

Thank you, @@BenchmarkToolSupply for the answer. To clarify... You're referring to SLAM based unstructured LiDAR. More photogrammetry packages are now supporting this as it's becoming fairly popular. Regardless of what Pix4D recommends, I'd like to be sure that if Pix4D goes out of business, raises prices, falls behind, I don't like their service -- etc -- *that I can still use the hardware that cost $6k + $1k for IOS Pro model.* If you're saying I can use the photos and RTK (or raw/PPK-able coordinates), without LiDAR, that is good to know. However, it would be much better if it could also export the LiDAR and take full advantage of my $7k investment. I wasn't sure if you were saying it *can't* export the LiDAR data/pointcloud as well, or just that you don't advise it? Thank you again for your insight.

As an installer of benchmark and watching this I think Kevin, Mike, and John did a great job covering this system. Knowledge is power and being clever and tailoring to customers needs and approach to the installation is where rubber meets the road or where magic happens.

Technically yes. They would be temporary, as the paint is water based, but could definitely be used to pre mark
