At first I thought you were welding in the chucks built in taper, I'm glad it was just the taper adapter. You probably could have gotten better concentricity between the machine center and the Jacobs chuck by cutting a piece of stock down to the largest size the Jacobs chuck could hold, and without taking the stock out of the jaws, attaching the Jacobs chuck to the stock to position for welding, but that would only be good until you took it out of the tool holder.

Soo...that was the problem...I use 10 tones of hydraulic jack. the more the sized, the oil inlet dia is also increased ...so you have to use an approximated size of that inlet, jist like >4 mm inside diameter of the hose ,like a writing pen out let case...but not pen...try it and fix... withe in 100% you will succeeded ...

No need to invert the bottle jack if you make a floating frame for the jack to sit on, and springs return the frame. Plate of steel at base of jack with long round bar from underneath. The jack can push against the top beam of the press.🤣👍
