I bought this setup as a stand-alone to update our 4 lane layout and within 1 day of fighting with it it's going back and hopefully AW can fix the controllers someday. There is NO FEEL in the trigger since it's only a potentiometer on the trigger and it's VERY SLOPPY to say the least. We spent hours and some times the cars go, others nothing using the full range of the trigger. Then they'd go, stop, slow, fast all just by breathing on the trigger. This layout is brand new AFX/AW track so we know that's not the problem. The BEST WE COULD GET was about 1/4 trigger the cars would travel slowly & steadily, but as far as any type of racing we switched back to 4 power packs and 4 wired controller, waste of $140

Thanks for posting this. I have a 1/4 mile HO slot car drag strip. I was going to buy a set of the AW wireless controllers for the drag strip, but not now! Huge lag indeed!! I also have a Carrera 1/24 and 1/32 super speedway tracks NASCAR Daytona and Talladega layouts with wireless controllers, no lag issues with the Carrera. I’m 65, been collecting and playing with slot cars since I was 6 years old. I have always loved this hobby.

That's alot of lag. If it's consistent you will tailor your driving to it without even knowing and it won't be an issue. At least until you go to someone else's track then you'll drive like crap.

I wanted the victory 400 set so bad, but my experience with the beautiful AW cars is nothing short of horrifying. I bought the Afx International Speedway yesterday because of the cars. All my AW cars are CURRENTLY running well. Why? Office max has small neodymium magnets that I stuck to the existing magnets and put smaller tires on the front and back hubs to get the traction magnets closer to the track. I also filed down the chassis on the bottom where they rub. The extraction cars run great for a while until the brushes get moved or dirty up the armature. Then it's an hour of cleaning and fiddling with the cheap metal underneath to get them to drive properly again. It's really impressive when you have company over. (Sarcasm). This is how China plans to defeat the U.S. Systematically killing our beloved hobby with cheap, eye-catching cars made with shitty materials that don't last. Sons a bit#hes!

Yeah, AW X-Traction can be luck of the draw...at best. Getting them to run right and stay that way can be a challenge to say the least. I do appreciate the bodies, as I think AW does a great job with them. They look great and and are fairly durable. The chassis on the other hand....sigh.

If you've not a professional slot racer why would you care ? Proof that the more "expertise" that is applied to a specific subject the lees fun it becomes. Stands to reason that if each controller has a similar response the playing field would be equal for all involved. Since 99% of the folks that purchase these sets are novices at best I believe the FUN factor is still intact. I'm sure that's what this hobby is supposed to be.
@domer99
@domer99 8 ай бұрын
Thanks for your comment. The issue for me has nothing to do with expert vs. novice, but rather AW releasing a clearly flawed product with regards to the latency or lag. Two manufactures, Scalextric and Carerra have wireless sets with none of these issues. Those sets are not aimed at "experts". Further, it can't really be argued that the AW wireless set is value set (get what you pay for angle), as it ran me nearly $400 at time of purchase. I feel that if we do not bring attention to a manufactures decision to release a flawed product, the likely hood of similar decision making will continue in the future. Can the set be raced the way it is, yes it can be, but that is not the point. My take on it anyway, thanks again for sharing your thoughts.

I have a wireless mouse. It has some lag. You get used to it and compensate. But its still there. Cars now are drive by wire. No throttle cable. Lag there too when you accelerate. Thanks for posting this. Interesting. For now will keep my wired 120 ohm controllers. However if a layout grows much out of a couple steps and arms length to re track a car, I could see over looking the lag.

It would be interesting to take one of these controllers apart and see if the 'Bluetooth' part could be refitted onto a Difalco or pro motor controller. just seeing it here on this vid. it looks much like a regular resistor type controller.

Can’t help but compare the Autoworld Victory 400 to the Tomy Internationl 4 lane set. I bought the 4 lane Tomy set when it first came out and all these years later still love it. Added 4 15 inch straights to lengthen the straightaway of my favourite layout, Spain. My only complaint with the set is that it has too many 6 inch curve pieces. I still like to race my old TJets and Magnatraction cars in addition to the newer G Plus ones.

Speaking in terms of the wireless terminal track you see in this video, the only way you could accomplish individual power to each lane would be to have 4 wireless terminal tracks. Could you modify the terminal track to accomplish your goal? Perhaps.

To be fair you are comparing a wired controller to a wireless controller. There is no way a wireless controller can compete with a wired controller just like a stock 120-ohm AFX controller can't compete with a Difalco Controller. The Auto world controllers do have a lag, but I assume you will get used to it and be able to control the cars just fine. This is an entry level set and would be fine for kids just bashing around but I would not recommend it for anyone wanting to do any type of serious racing. I personally would never buy a wireless set of any kind because you're stuck with those controllers and will not be able to use any aftermarket controllers.
@domer99
@domer99 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment! I own a Scalextric wireless set as well as a Carrera (1/43) wireless set and those controllers work w/out any perceptible lag. For sure, Auto World's wireless is not ready for club racing ("serious racing") in its current form and perhaps any future form, but it should function w/out delay. I am confident that Auto World will figure things out and make it right...they are just too darn close to a great product to ignore it. Regarding not buying wireless b/c of being stuck with those controllers, you never know, perhaps the aftermarket scene will come out with more robust controllers like they have for the 1/32 options?
@MiguelA99
@MiguelA99 Жыл бұрын
When you choose to compete against anything in the world, conditions need to be fair and the same. In this case, if you agree to buy it and have fun, you expect all controllers behave in the same way, and this is the case with this Autoworld set and conditions are the same. I would not buy a wireless (Carrera or Scalextric: by the way those controllers have not the best design). Honestly, I thank Autoworld for doing this because it is a good start for the HO hobby and at least some people will find it interesting and fun. I see this comparison as if we were comparing electrical and gas fueled car. For HO cars is a good first step and I think will improve with the time. Who said a controller maker will not produce wireless HO controllers in a future? as it happens with 132/124 scale. Even I heard someone on a different channel that that battery will not last. Possible? I am sure improvements will come for wireless controllers. How long have we been waiting for the AFX lap counter app? 2 years or more? and we want to the see it one day even we can use different apps these days.

the Latency has noting to do with transformer or voltage ..I am on my third wireless power track . Take apart one of the power tracks and look at the tiny capacitors on the circuit board that is the problem with taking off softly ..i have burnt out 2 of these power tracks ..first problem was lane 2 was going full throttle with out even pairing the controller .then i had issues with cars stopping and not starting on there own untill the power track failed and was dead ...i have taken these apart and found what failed unfortunatly i see no fix so i went back to old school wired controllers with ohms adjustment potentiometer.ITs a great idea just that its going to take good wireless speed controls to hold up and be latency free ,like radio control cars ..one thing i was toying with was a mamba max speed control from an rc car i had .. Wire the power supply to the speed control connect the reciever from my rc car controller and wire the speed control to the track and use my rc car conroller for the throttle .. problem solved ... now all you need is 3 more !!!!

The competitive gaming scene seems to have the general consensus that wired will always be faster then wireless (because physics stuff). That said, what is someone trying to get out of this, if you want to compete then continue with a wired controller. If your like me and want to see if your little ones (3,5,6) will take to it and its a very casual experience then not having to worry about wires is VERY appealing, and in the end its an even playing field if everyone is using the same style controller with the same latency. The better comparison will be when new wireless controllers come out, then we can really see who makes the better one. Wired VS wireless is apples and oranges to me.
@domer99
@domer99 Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment. I'm right there with you regarding the appeal of wireless and young children...the cars should move, and not the track! Wireless is not new on the slot car scene. Scalextic wireless (which I own), and Carrera wireless (I've used 1/32 and own 1/43 wireless) have been out for years and function the same as wired in terms of responsiveness. In Auto World's case, I do not think their intent was to release a controller that suffers with lag as these do. There are a number of possibilities on how we ended up with this situation, but all would be speculation. If Auto World did in fact intend for their wireless controllers to function this way, or, at the very least knew of their lag, this should have been disclosed as a fact of the controller's function. That being said, I really don't think this is the case. Auto World, did some great things in the controller's design such as the much larger frame. This makes the controller very comfortable for bigger kids to handle, as well as very big kids ;-). I am confident that Auto World will pursue a solution, or I really hope they do. They are very close to a really good thing here.

dont run any 6ohm hipo or 3.5 ohm cars on the bluetooth power track it wont last more than 30 minutes it burns out the tiny capacitors on the board in the power track i been through 2 power tracks i 1 week and if you plan on running anything other than Xtraction cars just buy a race set with traditional controllers .. the latency is not the power supply is a combination of bluetooth and very small capacitors that dont have a very big charge to get the cars running quickly..auto world has a great idea poor execution ...if you hold the car and pull the trigger to clean off the tires you will burn out the speed control in that lane with in seconds ask me how i know this ...

It would be interesting to know how slow you'd have to blip the Bluetooth throttle to get a similar response as the traditional one. Another way to test this would be with a drag race set that actually times the reaction time.

Thanks for your detail on these controllers and their operation, this is in my opinion way overdue. I'm definitely going to try and get my hands on some of these at some point and do some further exploring. Do you happen to know what type of components are used internally? Like you mentioned resistors briefing. Are they using resistors? diodes? Transistors? I'm sure they used something inexpensive, but I'd be curious to know. They seem really cheap and flimsy watching the video, but I want to see if the transmitters could be taken out and put into a decent handset. I've also been curious about that variable voltage power supply they are making now too. Chances are it's not able to handle much amperage though, so I haven't been overly excited about getting one TBH. Plus it's really easy to convert a variable voltage laptop charger that has 5 amps and they are less than ten bucks. I was actually thinking about using one to power a home made Dyno due to the neat appearance. But if you know what type of controller they used, I'm very curious to find out. Thanks, Andrew
@domer99
@domer99 Жыл бұрын
Hi, when I mentioned resistors, I was drawing a comparison to conventional resistor-based controllers. There certainly may be resistors on the board of these controllers that affect sensitivity, but I have not taken apart the controllers to check. I may just do that so folks with more knowledge than I have can have a look into how the controllers are put together. What I show in my other videos is that the controllers do, unfortunately, suffer from lag. If you performed a drag race type start using a wired controller and the Auto World wireless controller, the wireless controlled car is left standing still by comparison. An even greater issue in my opinion is when entering and exiting a corner, you are forced to anticipate the controller's lag rather than focusing on traditional entry and exit throttle modulation. Unfortunately, as of my writing this reply, Auto World will not acknowledge the problem.
