I loved his euphemisms when he went to use the outhouse

Her music box dance is so satisfying with such crisp movements that are perfectly synced to the sound effects, and then DVD's ragdoll puppet dance blows my mind every time, I just love it. The parts where he teeters as though losing his balance but just actually has such control over his movements. Legendary

God is been so long since i saw this movie last. I'm 34 now and barely remember watching this at 10 or younger (time has kinda mashed my life together to the point where it's hard to remember WHEN stuff happened while growing up).

Captian Lionel Jeffries (a WWII war soldier and awarded the Burma Star) in this role is one of my most enjoyed portrayals of a fictional character. Delightfully eccentric. That's what I aspire to in my senior years. Now upon me.

This is the kind of creepy sensory experience, and altered perception that shaped generation X. I mean, have you seen the child catcher? That is some messed up Grimm Fairy tale weirdness.
Yeah this whole movie freaked me out as a kid but still loved it lol (I'm gen Y/millennial though) just rewatched it the other day and still enjoy it. Still HATE the child catcher
@ayoungconservative10513 ай бұрын
Little known fact that Lionel nearly died during the filming of this scene when there was a technical fault and the outhouse was completely submerged in water. This created a fear of water that he would have for the rest of his life. A few years later, he would nearly drown AGAIN when filming a scene for a comedy. The sketch included them crashing a car into a pond, however they misjudged how deep it was and the car completely sunk and Lionel was only able to escape by the skin of his teeth for the second time.

Dangerous film, as i recall the child catcher had a similar close call when his carriage flipped over.
@joshuaking37317 күн бұрын
@silvercat18 That he did. I would say the main difference here is the actor who played the child catcher, Robert Helpmann, was an accomplished stuntman, as well as a professional ballet dancer. According to Dick Van Dyke he recognized it was tipping and simply walked off the carriage as it was rolling like he was in an action film.

Dick Van Dyke born December 13, 1925. Jeffries born June 10, 1926. Jeffries was about 6 months younger. Does anyone even try to verify information before they post?
@morganbailey32317 күн бұрын
@@dlxmarks Dick Van Dyke said this in an interview for the movie. Check the interviews before posting a reply.
@dlxmarks7 күн бұрын
@@morganbailey3231 I'm not going to bother looking for this interview because it doesn't matter. If Van Dyke said Jeffries was 39 during filming, he was wrong. I'll trust IMDb, Wikipedia, and Jeffries' own obituary in _The Guardian_ before what Van Dyke said off the top of his head about another man's age in an interview. Anyway Jeffries was a WWII veteran of the Burma campaign. If he were 39 in 1968, he would have been 16 in 1945.
