I suggest you add the water first and then the seeds will spread more evenly. I also grow mine in a window. They are green and beautiful. No need to put them in a dark place. Green is good.

I tried to do this with brown rice (slightly different method) but I think it has been 4 or 5 days and no sprouts. I'm going to try your method but otherwise I think I might need a different grain... Maybe an organic brown rice or actually go find some quinoa. I heard quinoa is quicker to sprout? Though maybe I'll pay attention to my water too. I think I was just using tap water for convenience.
