So, there's a lot of inaccuracies here, but they're not important. The vibe is right. Google's Search Engine Optimization strategies are supposed to revolve around good content, and punish overuse of keywords, which is the barf you're speaking of, and that's not working. They're supposed to be based on the page, rather than the site, however, that's not properly enforced. They're also supposed to determine how long a user is on that single page in order to determine relevancy, but that is also not done anymore. The change from optimizing for customer satisfaction in search experience to optimizing for customer satisfaction with ads was done in February of 2011 with the Panda update, before Prabhakar Raghavan stepped in. This actually caused a drop in low quality search results, but shifted the focus enough that it was easier to game the system through the usage of high profile sites, private blog networks, and affiliate networks. The affiliate networks, more than anything, are an alternative revenue source for most web sites, and it's the growth of affiliate marketing that has caused a lot of this spiral to continue getting worse.

Appreciate his use of the word "hoovering." We should use that word here stateside more often. Also, that vein was REALLY bulging out of his forehead when that garbage truck of money backed up across the screen. 😤😡

J.Courage, A BLACK MAN 👨🏿 HERE, and I LOVE THIS DISCUSSION! I often share with others that white people have been misinformed and negatively affected as well (although it isn’t as obvious to the naked eye 👁️). I think this insight is liberating in more ways than one and found it VERY valuable. THANK YOU for sharing this and let’s continue to be honest about the diagnosis while working towards the cure/healing! Blessings 👍🏿

"Google RUINED the Internet" but did it though? Roll back time to the late 90's, you were still getting adblasted six ways to sunday (While on dialup) and the engines were all absolute garbage. Thing is these services aren't free, there is always a price to pay one way or another.

Too bad Google successfully bribed the DOJ by paying them a measly $2M to have a trial without jury. They will attempt to summarily dismiss the case as well. It doesn't seem the government did much of anything. Apparently, if you own and control all of the advertisement infrastructure you can make the data say whatever you want, and therefore, not have any quantative/qualitative evidence against you. Well done everyone...

10:14 the main problem with Neeva was that it was a paid subscription service, not a free search engine, and few people were willing to pay for a search engine

It's been over a year. AI still isn't doing anything useful for regular people. All it's doing is make fake images and be the most annoying buzzword that we have to put up with all the time.

God damn the US is corrupt as hell.. Paying cops to intimidate Union organisers?? Here in Belgium I sure am glad we have hella strong unions! Strikes happen pretty regularly, even with completely shutting down companies and closing main roads. Go American workers! Unionize and stand up to the horrible things corporations are doing to you!

The one thing I think is the most detriment to this country is the suppressing of its own people. When you're people are equipped with the tools, they need to make this country run, and you oppress them. It's a sad day for a whole country. We have to be on the right side of history. And more people need to speak out! And it doesn't need to come from african american.

This is soo on point! Thanks for having this conversation. I am on Ozempic for all the right reasons and it's just starting to work. So thankful! Just one point though... In Canada it costs me $250 a month, not 150 as you mentioned. Having said that, I think of the money that I save on food plus preventing medical issues in the future. Not sure if there's a price you can put on that. ❤

UGH as someone who lives close to walmart headquarters… yeah… they practically own all of NWA. as someone who’s lived here for over 20 years, yes, they’ve put so much money into this area, that now people are moving here from all over the country. unfortunately, this means that the people who’ve lived here all their lives cannot afford to live here anymore. prices have skyrocketed, but nobody cares about the marginalized communities affected because “Oh look a new bike path!” To top it all off, it’s unfortunate to see all these amazing things being built for the community, not because the government cares, but because they care about all the Walmart shareholders.

Unfortunately, we live in a post-Citizens United world. Google will simply buy out the judges and enough of congress (all completely legal to do) to make sure nothing meaningful actually gets done. Best chance is for ballot initiatives, but inevitably, even those would be summarily gutted by the sitting govt. (we’ve seen it happen in FL). We’re not simply regressing to fascism. We’re careening head-on into feudalism.
