I have used several cartridges and the MP-110 is more forgiving on order records and doesn't skip on slightly scratched records like other cartridges I have used. Also it does have a full sound and for those on a budget, it is the best bang for the buck.

Great comparison. I preferred the Blue. It was clearer without being over bright. By comparison the MP sounded muffled and dull. If the Blue is properly aligned it tracks fine.

I've always liked the om series, I've heard a few of the 2M series but in my opinion it doesn't get good until you go to the blue and it doesn't truly get exceptional until you get it to the orange and of course the black. At this price level, under $100, I would almost always choose the om series because of it's more easy going nature and more peaceable demeanor. Plus as others have noted replacement stylus are cheaper and easier to do as well. The only real advantage at this level of going with red in my opinion is the fact that it would be slightly easier to install and align properly because of its square edges.

The carbon is basically an ATN91, in my opinion this cartridge sounds a lot like the old Shure cartridges of the 70’s, warm, full and lush, not the last word in detail or treble extension, but it’s a cartridge that will play anything well and you can listen to for hours. In my opinion it is a great hidden gem and be careful what you wish for! If you want to “upgrade” maybe try the LP Gear Elliptical stylus for a little more top end detail, but I’ve never tried it because I like the warmth and low noise of the conical ATN91.

At first I could not hear the difference having my cheap headset to listen to the sound, then it switched from cork back to bare and I was like hell yeah I can hear it right away. I'm very surprised I could hear the transition back to bare so easily.

This is crazy ... I set up my denon receiver to stereo and put my bass at a modest setting.. using psb speakers ... While I'm not sure what quality this KZfaq recording is at, I played this at -25 db with expectations that I would like the Naga based on what I heard others say (bass, body warmth, smooth). Thank you for this .. do more with other cartridges. I'm sure you can get the companies to sponsor your tests.

Here's a top tip. Get rid of the ' mickey mouse' standard set of metal screws and nuts and replace them with high quality allen bolts and nuts. Makes a big improvement to sound quality whichever cartridge you use!

Very Nice but this is Nothing new to the electronics "Branding Factories" There's a Multitude of Hi-Fi products produced in the same assembly plants with exact components yet have different names on them & sell for hundreds more. I'm not going to call them out by name but this has been going on since the 1990s. The words "Made in China" may ring a bell.

The 2M Red sounds a tad louder and more forward than the Grado, but that may only be due to the higher output voltage of the Red. The Grado is more laid back, but has a great sound.

Yup just ran into this, pl-518 & new audio technica headshell was causing tonearm drift opon dropping the cue arm before hitting the groove it was drifting toward arm rest. Had to change cart to pioneer oem headshell and wires did exactly this! Used the old pioneer ones was seriously not ideal.

I agree with your summary. I find the thing difficult to squeeze slowly and uncomfortable in hand. 99% of the time: I spray a mist of distilled water onto a clean photography lens cleaning microfiber cloth. With the record spinning, I float the cloth over the record to pick up dust. Works pretty well. When I remove a record from the platter, I hold the edges of the record and put my thumb on the center spindle to discharge static electricity for a second or two then slowly remove the record. Voodoo, well maybe.

Shipping a used turntable is a disaster in the making. Save up and buy a good NEW first turntable that you will keep for your entire life. You will like it more and you will save money. I like Technics turntables for their build quality and versatility. Buying USED might be okay if you buy the turntable from someone you know and can transport it home safely yourself. Thank you for posting this.

I think the key elements are the stylus and the interface, you can save money in the rest. However if your vinyl is not from a pre-digital in studios era then there is no point in ripping them from vinyl, just get the music in CD and rip the CD if you can't find them in wav, CDs are superior format to vinyl. Because since the 1980s Vinyl was produced in studios with digital equipment and that is what went into the master to make all the copies sold to the public, so there is no point in ripping them from vinyl, just find them in an uncompressed or lossless compression format, and really save them in wav, there is no point in saving them in flac or any other lossless compression because storage is pretty cheap and when you play them well the decompression will produce small electrical noise, unless you are using a mobile apple product and you have low space then use alac.
