Cool prop! Does it have any stories that can demonstrate it? It seems like each small item looks fine on its own, but together they don't really seem connected.

That is a great comment - I agree it would be nice to bring the props together in a consistent patter line, but nothing comes with it so you have to think of it yourself!

I prefer Alan Warner's version. The part where the head turns at the end is somewhat unnecessary.
@martinsmagic
@martinsmagic 7 күн бұрын
Alan's is much closer to the traditional Mummies created by Taytelbaum, Inzani-Henley and Oskar Rey (you can see photos here: www.martinsmagic.com/the-wandering-mummy/), however this version by Tony Lackner was the first one I owned and I think that plays a big part in why I still love it. Thanks for your comment.

Wow, Mummified Divide on multi-screen... I love it! I really liked this MW release and think it will be a sought after item in future years given it's association with such an iconic stage illusion. Nice clean demo! Glad to hear the UK trip was a success... any photos from the Porcupine? :)

Hi John - as I said in my write up on my website ( www.martinsmagic.com/allmagic/close-up/mummified-divide-by-magic-wagon/ ) how can you not love this release by Magic Wagon - a perfect working, miniature version of the most iconic magic illusion of all time. I was trying to show how clean this effect is by showing all the angles and was pretty happy with the final cut. The UK trip was a huge success but the Porcupine was way too busy for me to pull out a couple of tricks when we went there :-( Thanks for commenting John - it is good to be back in the saddle, even if the first week back felt a little strange.

Thanks Ritchie - glad you liked it. That effect is one of my favorites and I've created quite a few more videos since that one: www.martinsmagic.com/allmagic/cards/double-back-by-jon-allen/ My channel is primarily aimed at magic prop collectors who want to see demos of cool magic props - and although I do have some actual performances to lay people ( www.martinsmagic.com/some-recent-performances/ ) most of my videos are what I call Speed Demos ( www.martinsmagic.com/recent-speed-demos/ ). So I understand why my views are low. However, I was just looking at your channel and you seem to be doing everything right to attract the large views - your videos are well filmed, original and funny! But I don't understand why you are not getting millions more views. Thanks for commenting!

I like this, and I've been twisting my brain to come up with what the trick actually is. I can only think of one method that could work with ungimmicked props, but I'd probably have to create my own version to get a feel for whether that is it or not.

This was really fun to watch Andy. My favorite running theme, is that your audience member is holding on to the Marty McFly doll with such adoration, and she uses it to interact with the card selections. Perfect.
@martinsmagic

Thanks Greg - I'm glad you enjoyed it - I know I enjoyed performing the show and my friends loved it too. I ended up performing for almost an hour that night and they really were the perfect audience. But I was totally exhausted at the end as I left it "all on the stage" :-) The Marty McFly was something I had been toying with and I was very happy with how it ended up. If you hold one of those Hot Toys (about $400!!!) the detail is truly amazing and it is hard not to fall in love with them. What is funny is I purchased it just for the show - I didn't have one before but I thought it would be a nice bit of business.

Hi Ledi - thanks for the information. Flexible Glass or Bending Glass (as it was known in the UK) was invented by British Magician Oswald Rae. It was first described in Oswald Rae’s book: Sub Rosa published in 1928 (Chapter IV, More Miscellaneous Tricks - Bending A Piece of Glass). And it obviously has been a worldwide hit ever since. Cool video. My only constructive criticism is it would be more entertaining if there was also music with it.
@martinsmagic
@martinsmagic Ай бұрын
Thanks Sterling - the lack of music and often speaking in my videos is by design. These are not performances but demonstrations of the props - I do them them as cleanly as possible so you get to see the prop in its best light. I always say if you like the "Speed Demo" you'll love the performance. In a few occasions I do add music and that is primarily because the item is really a stage effect and the close-up conditions I perform the effects in make some sounds a little to obvious so I cover them with music. But this is very rare. Also sometimes I have to add a routine and patter because the prop means little without it. But I try to strip things down to show off the prop as best I can. Thanks for commenting.

Hi Martin, what's the difference between this early run model and the latest design? Thanks.
@martinsmagic
@martinsmagic Ай бұрын
Hi Cahyo - I mention the big difference on my website here: www.martinsmagic.com/allmagic/close-up/blue-phantom-early-run-by-tony-lackner-harold-voit/ ... This version built by Tony Lackner and distributed by Harold Voit has been the gold-standard for the close-up version for many years. This is one of the very earliest versions purchased directly from Zauber Zentrale in Germany c. 1980 and it is perfect. You can also tell it is one of the earliest because later runs had a button you could depress on the back to supposedly help with the effect. However, that button comes with a cost: now you cannot hand out the top tube to the spectator as discussed in the original instructions. For me the button has little value and is certainly not necessary so I would prefer one without the button.

Was so pleased to see the name "Gene Elmo" on this demo. Gene retired to Florida but remained active. I drove to his house north of Tampa one evening to purchase his "Checkerboard Silks" and I'm sure he was well into his 80s. His sister was making them! Delightful visit and he wasn't bashful about his pricing. He was a gentleman and his sister a sweet woman. The effect was terrific, remarkable craftsmanship, beautiful large silks. It was a dynamic and visual transposition. Great memory! Thanks Andy!
