Yeah…this reminds me of the completionist videos where he would debate “the internet” ona game (with the idea that he would take points from common consensus and then be opposed to them)…except he would sometimes ignore or make up the popular talking points…but it didn’t matter as it was to get an debate in the comments section…so just algorithm boosting As for DS1 points: yeah, iron ring is commonly reccomended but it’s not necessary. Not picking the master key, I get as it WAS common advice but it really just give you more OPTIONS on where to go as opposed to actually making it faster. Really black firebombs tend to be the more common pickup as it lets you skip the asylum demon. Like DS1 has flaws, certainly (like how trying to access the lord soul bosses early hits you with an artificial wall, tge entirety of lost izalith for example) but Girard’s points are asinine

The point about the combat being very simplistic actually isn't too far off-base, though I wouldn't put it as a negative - at least speaking of Dark Souls 1. The combat in souls games is heavily reactive; meaning that the enemies set the pace of the encounter and the player has to *react* to their actions. You can't simply attack at any point, and apart from a few exceptions, you can't create an opportunity for yourself to attack, so for the most part you're meant to use your defensive options when the enemy attacks (block/dodge roll/positioning) and wait until the enemies give you the time to take your turn attacking. Your attack options are pretty limited as well - just a few variations of a light and heavy attack. Most of the time, the most efficient and safe way to attack is to simply rely on your R1 attack. Because of the stamina system and faster recovery, dodge rolls end up being a better option than blocking in most boss fights (plus with a successful dodge you avoid all damage, including elemental, which isn't always the case for blocking). With those considerations, often the most effective approach to combat is just using dodge rolls and R1s - very simplistic indeed. I'm not necessarily considering the magic here because magic builds are very unbalanced and completely disregard the combat system - if anything, playing as a mage leads to an even simpler combat loop. Again, I wouldn't say that any of that is a detriment to DS1, as the real combat depth in this game isn't in the combat systems, but in encounter design: the locations and enemy combinations provide plenty of unique and challenging encounters, each one being like a puzzle. Keeping the combat simple also reduces the necessary level of execution skill and lowers the entry skill barrier, making the game more accessible. The real problems started showing through by Elden Ring, where this simple combat system was pushed to its limits... but that's a whole another story.

A scripted debate that's designed to end in a "tie" has to be one of the worst ideas for a video ever. I didn't even know they made more of these after how awful and poorly received the first one was. They clearly had no idea what they were talking about in the TF2 vs Overwatch video, so I get the impression they never cared about the quality of they arguments as long as they can make it seem even on the surface.

It sucks that he did not spend it on the proper things, because over time inflation means it devalued it, but he's seperate from the grifters that actively embezzle funds from charity or use funds for things other than they said they would. The bar is literally in hell, with some ex-us presidents, but it is enough for me to chalk it up to monumental idiocy rather than active maliciousness. A criminally negligent level of idiocy, that doubling down and trying to defend or excuse only makes worse, but still...not grifting for personal funds he used.

@@FFKonoko I dunno man. He def used those funds to pay for the charity streams, which he at no point said he was going to do (He actually said the opposite, that all money was going to charity). This deadlock video (and probably all of them) seems like a content farm. The video finishes with a joke that references the ending not being satisfying. I genuinely think they wrote themselves into a corner. They picked Dark Souls for views and inevitably had to make stupid points... Playing devil's advocate, I know Gerard isn't well liked, but I don't think he actually believes what he's saying in the video. Seems like shlocky Buzzfeed tier nonsense to me, so I don't think these points should be taken so seriously. The points ARE shitty nonetheless, you're right. But I think the criticism should be toward how crappily it was written, not that it's crazy Gerard thinks this way, I doubt he actually does. They clearly had to grasp at straws and they just did it for views.
@AnimatedTerror3 күн бұрын
Which is weird again ignoring what Gerard has been outed as. These two don’t run content farms. Yes they put out stuff semi regularly leading to videos that aren’t always the best they could be. But both still carried a level of polish that made the video (and really this goes for all deadlock episodes and the people involved in them.) feel like an anomaly. A weird glimpse into a timeline where matpat and others operated content farms.

God. I don't even like Dark Souls 1 that much, but these takes are garbage. How do you not know where to go? Despite how often people like to say Dark Souls 1 is non linear, it's not exactly rocket science to figure out. Did he just not talk to the crestfallen guy? And even if he didn't, he had acess to only 2 paths without the master key. And if he can't figure out how humanity works, then i don't even know what to say. The game literally tells you how it works, i think. And even if i didn't, it's not hard to figure it out through trial and error. And while yes the combat is slow, that's kinda the point. Overall, it makes me wonder if he actually completed the game or just watched some other person's lets play while commiting tax fraud. Deadlocked was one of those weird experiments by game theory to branch out of just theory content, but it clearly never worked.

@@TheGimbishGlob you aren’t missing much. i remember the tf2 vs overwatch one specifically being pretty awful. From what I remember, Deadlock had this weird thing where it had to pretend like every debate had two equally valid sides. A lot of these "debates" are absurd because one side is clearly more right than the other
