There’s hardly any videos of Lakehurst. Is it a nice place to live?
@wherewegotogether...264714 күн бұрын
In my opinion, it is. There aren’t many houses to choose from as it is a very small town but I find it very peaceful, unappreciated and full of history.
@caron77714 күн бұрын
@@wherewegotogether...2647 That sounds like a lovely town. I’m in Tampa. Been here for 40 years and it’s definitely not peaceful anymore.. it’s become overcrowded and the heat is just too unbearable. You’re lucky to be there..I can only dream of greener pastures. Hope to make that dream a reality someday. Take care! Thanks for the response and your videos 🤗

We are Jersey shore locals so we definitely understand the crowdedness especially this time of year. We come to Lakehurst to escape it all! Our favorite thing about Tampa is Sheikra and how you can see the skyline from the top ❤️💙 we hope one day you’re able to move to a place you can enjoy. Thank you so much for watching! :)

My dad was Naval Security at Mare Island for 18 years. He was one of the few that was RADCON certified so he spent a good deal of time on board guarding her and the Sea Wolf in the 80's

My great uncle Clarence "Clay" Hough was a welder who did some underwater work on the nautilus before she was in service.

Was the reactor compartment behind that closed hatch?

We’re not sure what was behind that door. It may have been, but there were a few doors locked we couldn’t enter.

I went through there when I was in sub school many years ago. Ended up on a carrier tho Doing GQ in narrow hallways like that must be pretty crazy

I was one of the shipfitters at mare Island naval shipyard that helped turn 571 Nautilus into that museum, pull the sea trunks/ escape hatches, forward and aft,fabricated assembled and installed the staircases entering and exiting the submarine took out watertight doors replace them with passageways so the public can walk through and view what life is like on a submarine. I salute those submariners and all our military for their dedication to service🇺🇲
@wherewegotogether...2647Ай бұрын
Thank you so much for your hard work so we could see what life was like on the submarine! It is beyond appreciated. We had an amazing day of learning and have a whole new appreciation for Submariners and their service to this country both past and present ❤️🇺🇸

This is such a cool Museum especially since its free! Most museums like this charge a decent fee, like the intrepid in NYC. So glad to have this in out state

It was so much fun to go to. We spent a lot of time alone in the sub because it was a slow Sunday morning. Free parking and entry was awesome. We spent a good amount of money in the gift shop because it was free.

I saw this Locomotive on a siding way back in 80s at the New Hope and Ivyland RR .She was Fully Functional and nicely painted . I cant believe she was abandoned and forlorn . Sad For sure . She looks like a C&O 4-8-4 Northern .

Does anyone know it’s year of manufacture? I once lived in Yardley Pennsylvania? Very close to this, but never knew it was there. Shame. There is a small railroad museum I believe on the way to Wilkes bare Pennsylvania a shame they can’t adopt it.

If the money was offered, what chances would this and the other abandoned engines have of being restored to their former glory- or at least to a point where they could be placed on static display in a rail museum?

This is my favorite part of the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania, the outside! Except for the K4s every one of those steam locomotives are the last of their kind. Also the original prototype GG1 #4800 (Old Rivets) is found outside.

That's Strasburg in Lancaster County Lancaster on 896 just south of 30. It's a great town that has been ruined by tourists
@wherewegotogether...26477 ай бұрын
How has it been ruined? We live in a tourist area as well but it's only bad during tourist season.
@scothammond57367 ай бұрын
@wherewegotogether...2647 I feel over the last 20 years Strasburg went from being a place tourists like to go to a place manufactured for tourists. It used to be a regular old small town. We had a local own grocery store it was just a normal sure fine store now. it's all hipsterish. Used to have a locals bar, it's now lodging of some sort. The shops down at the square are priced for tourists and don't really care about locals because the folks who own them aren't local. Its just not "small town USA" anymore. It's lost its authenticity in order for outside people to take money from outside people. It just feels fake
@wherewegotogether...26477 ай бұрын
I’m really sorry to hear this. That is a shame. We love this area very much. Being locals of the Jersey shore we can relate heavily to this. Everything is catered to New Yorkers. When we get upset at them for being disrespectful we are constantly told they “keep our economy going” with no regard for us locals. We contribute nothing and we don’t matter. So, we feel your pain.
@scothammond57367 ай бұрын
@wherewegotogether...2647 I love the Jersey shore!!! Especially during the "off" season. 2 October ago, we went to Sea Side. The locals were so cool, and the bars were so chill!!! That's a place where I will spend my money for sure because of the local people. Next time you come to Lancaster County, check out some of our less touristy areas. Stop by the J and B hotel on a Sunday for a $1.00 cheeseburger or buy some real milk from a cooler in an Amishmans barn. He has cheese and yogurt, too. Or come see Maplehoof and get some of the best hand dipped ice cream in all of PA.
