Thurman was my hero growing up. I was raised in The Bronx and was a catcher. I was in the Navy in 1979. I had come home for the weekend in August. The Murcer game was the Saturday game of the series. It occurred during the weekend I was home. I left Sunday night. We had gotten tickets for me, my dad, and about 30 other guys. I was there. I got to see the whole game, in uniform. Thurman will never be forgotten.

Thurman was my hero as a kid. Just a tremendous ballplayer and human being. Nobody can ever compare to him. He belongs in the Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. RIP Thurman 🙏

I'm no Giant fan. Bavaro had great hands and was the best blocking tight end in history. He's HOF to me.

I went to and graduated from Danvers High (class of 81) when Mark was there. He was only an acquaintance of mine (you know an occasional “what’s up” kinda thing). What I remember was he was a quiet kinda gentle giant kinda guy, but the biggest kid in school no doubt, excellent athlete and football player of course and he would eat 3 lunches like it was no big deal. He had the size already in high school and it did not surprise me at all that he had the football career that he had. Awesome guy, great to have just been there. My brother Phil was on the football team so he could tell you more but yeah, super cool.

I was 9. I remember the game like it was yesterday. What a game. When football was a game and nothing more.

He should have won MVP that season. Barry should have won sole MVP in 97. The voters were way too obsessed with Favre.

Dave Casper , Russ Francis , Todd Christensen , Ozzie Newsome , Kellen Winslow and Mark Bavaro...yes Casper did do some blocking at TE but not like Bavaro did and that's what made him so special ( dual-threat ) he was a tough SOB like Bill Parcells said unfortunately that's what caused him to have such a short career
