Well done! I love this work and it reminds me of my graduate school days while studying at The New England Conservatory in Boston Mass. when I was assistant organist of St Paul's Cathedral.

Very well sang. Perfect, in fact. It is interesting that from 2:26 to 3:02 , the conductor, Rinus Verhage, significantly increases the tempo. This prevents the music from dragging and losing its momentum. Very well executed. The recording quality too is very good - it captures the warmth of the organ and the reverberation of the choir.

I am surprised that I have the only comment for this. What a wonderful piece of music and a great performance. I’ve heard several renditions of this piece and there is certain innocence that I feel from this chorus and soloist. I really enjoyed it. Thank you for sharing this.
Very nice to see a Choral Evensong in a country which does not have an Anglican tradition.

door het ietwat trage tempo, blijft het fris en is goed te gebruiken als studiemateriaal.

This fine hymn was sung on the day of Her Majesty's funeral. My wife and I as we watched the proceedings live on the tele (both with a lump in our throats) simultaneously looked at each other and declared that we would both have this sung at each of our funerals.

Das Elias-Oratorium haben wir letzten Sonntag in einem Mitsingkonzert der Bamberger Synphoniker gesungen. Dieser Titel war auch dabei. Ich habe selbst daran teilgenommen im Bariton.

Stunning rendition. Glory and Honour to the only God, the God of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, father of our Lord Jesus Christ. May Western countries get back to Him, the only Saviour and Truth. Let's pray for that. Amen.

Beautifully, performed. As a pastor and church choirmaster of over a half century's experience, this lovely and reverent chorus was often the communion anthem in my churches. Thanks.

I remember fondly my childhood in a little English village, singing these responses each Sunday at church. All of the magical prose of the Book of Common Prayer.
@Londonfogey Жыл бұрын
It IS magical, isn't it? The last vestiges of the enchantment of the middle ages. And yet most churches have abandoned it in favour of prosaic, spoken liturgy with all the magic of a provincial bus timetable.
@Aeoline Жыл бұрын
@@Londonfogey In my experience, those that grew up with it, appreciate it. It becomes part of your being, part of you. Those who only turned to the Anglican faith as adults, or converted from something else, do not share this affection for it. There's also a prevalent tendency of wanting to 'modernise' everything, these days, in the belief that it makes things more accessible.

In my youth, as a chorister, I sang this oratorio in both English and German. Now, at 80-plus, my singing days are a thing of the past. But I can still sing along (mostly from memory) in spirit, and I am grateful for this very moving performance of its final chorus, which reminds me of just how magnificent a work Mendelssohn's Elijah is. Many, many thanks!!!

Beautiful singing! Excellent soprano. The mixture of the voices is interesting, although I don't know whether this would be noticed on an audio only recording.
