I find the Seymour D punchier and easier to cut thru the mix, I guess if you want the old fender sound you coukd just eq it?, great comparison very useful thanks!

I prefer the first one, the Squier pickup. Similar to the Fender pickup with the midrange response, but the Squier seems to have a little dirt/drive to it. Just what I want from a P bass. The Bill Lawrence by far has the most hi-fi sound, and for a different kind of bass I'd be looking into that brand. The others sound too muddy for my taste, which is what I expected from a quarter pounder.

The Duncan sounds thicker but the Fender sounds more musical to my ears. So I’d opt for the Fender and just roll in a a bit of dirt with a pedal if I needed the extra girth for something.

I own both sets of pickups and like both sets of pickups. I used the Fender 62 pickups when I played in a surf instrumental band with flat wounds and the Quarter Pounders with round wounds in the guitar heavy garage band I was in to cut through the mix. From your comparison, I can hear the Fender pickups are a bit more "Burpy" and the Quarter Pounders are a bit more even with a wider tone spectrum. Almost like they are slightly compressed. So, I would choose either one depending on what type of music I was playing.

I believe the newer Sire pickups have been upgraded as my new V5 sounds some better than this one a little more dynamic and less muffled. Although this sound was greatly influenced by whatever amp he’s using and how it was EQ’d, great playing by the way. For the $ Sire all the way a better value!👏👍

Uh burazere... Nema priče, smaranja, sve na svom mestu. I tačno ono što treba - prvo klin (clean) zvuk, pa sa malo efekta, pa klin pa sa puno efekta... Progutao sam video!!! I da, Darkglas. Ostale dodaju fuz ili drajv oko glavnog zvuka, dok kod nje nekako drajv uđe u zvuk, postane moćniji... Hvala, mislio sam da su samo za metal...

Not much difference in sound, that’s because the CVs use Fender alnico pickups so they’re gonna sound the same as a fender. The only time you’d change the pickup is if either A: The pickup is dead (or on the verge of being dead) OR B: If you want your instrument to sound different. I should get one of these basses, I have a P Bass that I absolutely love, I think I might like this one a little more

Something I don't get about the Portflex cabs, what's the major difference between the HE cabs and the HLF/LF. Is it that the HE is an extension cab, and doesn't have the flip top. Or is it to do with whether it's ported or not? I'm wondering if this 112HLF is ported or not, because I like the size and weight but would like a flip-top to go along with my PF-20T.
@ObraBass
@ObraBass 21 күн бұрын
HLF is ported, HE is closed, also HLF is much heavier. Both have a tweeter I think. You can found a lot of data at TalkBass forum.

You play this with so much feel, its inspiring. I hear what you mean by guitar sound by using a pick, theres plenty more aggression(?) in the attack than what I've been attempting to get with finger plucking style. That bend is chef's kiss btw definitely adding that to my rendition
