@@ahmedsaquarium8262 I realised i measuerd my tank and calculated the water volume it isnt what the company it is around 240 litres 55 to 60 gallon but witt the substrate and everything it is less. I am looking into upgrading the tank and adding 2 more discus. Your advice is very valid to buy the fish from a reputable source and learn to treat the fish. I think the discus are a bit like keeping angel fish they have similar immunity and requir similar conditioners but they are put in hard to keep category due to their stunning appearance and generally expensive price tag.

I would not recommend tiger barbs with Discus, even though i personally never kept tiger barbs. My tank is open top, discus are not jumpers really, but when they get scared / spooked .. they definitely can jump out… Mine never jumped out but i know a case when someone lost their discus to jumping out.

You can if ur discus are not fully grown adult size, be mindful not all adult discus are the same size, some are 5” n some are really huge.. so their over all size & total number of discus would decide if 50 gallon is suitable or not.

Praziquantel is basically insoluble in water at only 0.25ppm, use a small volume of food-grade ethanol (vodka) to dissolve powdered praziquantel before dosing tank. Be aware that nitrifying bacteria learn to synthesize praziquantel and will rapidly remove it from the water column.

hole in the head disease is caused by hexamita, which is a protozoan parasite. it is controlled using metronidazole. there are other "internal parasites" that have symptoms of loss of appetite and wasting away. these are nematodes (round worms) and can be treated with levamisol or fenbendazole; metronidazole is ineffective against nematodes. fenbendazole must be mixed with food because it is not water soluble.

@ahmedsaquarium8262
@ahmedsaquarium8262 3 ай бұрын
To be honest i never checked my water hardness.. because from my experience over the years i realised its more important to keep water parameters stable & consistent.. and fish will adjust to almost any parameters unless its really abnormal.. Just keep water clean, feed healthy & keep temperature 28-32 Degree C.

PRAZIPRO is a good medecation though it's somewhat strong compared to other Praziquintel products. Do we need to dose both Praziquintel and Flubendazole or either one of them is sufficient?
@ahmedsaquarium8262
@ahmedsaquarium8262 3 ай бұрын
I think praziquantel is better than flubendazole as it treats a wider range of internal & external issues compared to flubendazole.

I just got into discus. I find them easy to keep, but I would say the secret is, for any fish really. To keep them in a large tank. I do not consider 75 gallons large either. I keep 7 in a 100 gallon tall. So I do not overstock. I also bought them all between 4-7 inches. So, yes big discus. Better to keep bigger discus in smaller numbers, than smaller discus in higher numbers. Bigger fish take up more space giving the aquarium a more filled look without overstocking. Also, I’ve heard bigger discus are hardier. Anyway, I keep my temperature at 86 degrees Fahrenheit. I feed once a day, and I do 40% water change a week. I feed bloodworms mainly. Yes, I’ve heard bloodworms can carry parasites, but I buy Hikari bloodworms and those state on the label “parasite free”. So far I’ve had no issues. I do not recommend them for beginners though, mainly due to the fact that they usually start out with smaller tanks like a 55 gallon. I consider 55 gallons a small/medium sized tank.

Unless u are adding new stuff to ur tank (plants/fish), or feeding live food, something that can risk introducing parasites in the tank, I personally would not choose to medicate periodically… Just feed them well & keep ur tank clean, should be enough to keep them going strong.

This is the biggest lie of keeping Discus fish, that they are hard to keep. The problem is that they are expensive and hard to train to regular food as breeders use baby brine shrimp live. I have 550 TDS, 350 PPM GH, 4 degree KH. My discus tank is set at 84 degrees and I do 10-20% water changes every 1 to 2 weeks. People said my discus should be dead but they are not and been alive for more than 3 years now. Only thing you should know is keep 1 discus for every 10 gallons and you should be fine.

Thank u for ur comment & taking time out for showing your appreciation! If ur discus has gone dark, its most probably a blue colored fish… discus with blue color usually get dark for a ton of reasons, but most commonly its due to stress or some sort of illness.. Many kinds of disease & illnesses can cause the fish to go dark, so its not really possible for me to diagnose the issue here 🤷🏻‍♂️… but u can checkout my videos on discus disease & treatments, that might be helpful for u.

If u have less than 5 discus, u might need to add more discus, if u already have 5 or More, then wait few days they should figure out between themselves. If the bullying is extreme, and if there is one specific fish continuously bullying the new one, U might have to remove the bully fish in a new tank for few days..

I have 5 discus about the same size(medium) in the aquarium. 4 of them got well together because they grew up together. The other one is getting its way on the aquarium but does not swim together with the others. I have space for one or two more discus but I'm afraid of putting two smaller ones and they get beaten up. You mention putting a new discus that is about the same size as the others, what about putting one bigger? Does it make any sense to put one bigger to break that gang of four hierarchy? Two more behavioral questions: 1 - Do adult discus swim less around? In the majority of videos I see, adult discus is always idle, while my young/mid are swimming all over the aquarium. 2 - Is there any difference in aggression on male vs female discus?
@ahmedsaquarium8262

Hi! Whenever u add a new discus, its almost like rolling a dice… u never know what would happen… there had been times where I regretted adding “one more” discus cz it threw the balance out of the window.. If u add a bigger discus, it really depends on the personality of the fish, it might become the dominant one, or someone else in the tank might pin it down… again its like rolling a dice… bt most probably size should play a role & it would be the dominant fish.. 1- adult discus mostly hang around, especially if u have many in one tank, they tend to stay in their zones, cz they will be picked at if they moved in the territory of other fish. 2- male vs female, i think it doesn’t matter, bt i hv noticed males get more aggressive when they r competing for a certain female in the tank.. Hope this helps!
