*Why did Det. Sgt. Hawkins leave the train compartment after Sidney Fleming had confessed to the murder to Philippa Shelley, giving the murderer an opportunity to almost murder Ms. Shelley, I wonder.*

Marvellous film. Although The Head was a bit of a stinker his system did indeed manage to produce a boy of character in Rodgers.

If anyone is looking for a funny, just out of Prohibition, so a lot of fun drinking and the couple are Myrna Loy and William Powell, absolutely my favourite couple and they have fun. Take a look and you won’t be disappointed 😊

Good Lord, this is a sort of postwar counterproduction of "Goodbye, Mr Chips". How things changed so quickly in those days, for both good and evil. Still, it shows the ultimately good nature of people after years of evil times. As the son of parents who grew up with this sort of cinema, I would like to thank our host for putting up a gem that I've never seen but delights nonetheless.

The "private school experience" is a genre all its own. The British do it very well of course.

One of the most sinister somber movies of the 40s I've seen - Perrin's descent was unbearable to watch with a frightening ending that came out alright but still - a disturbing, unpleasant and not partic likable movie - but marius goring delivers as always.

Teachers had to put up with kids like me who hated the place. Some did it with class. One old Queen who caned me literally for nothing, absolutely shat himself when he saw me in real life. 😂 And I saw tough Mr Wilson recently who I could have knocked over by just bumping into him. 😂 Anyway , they have a shite job. 😂

Moderately entertaining. Spoilt somewhat by the unexplained presence of the London Police detective on the train from Scotland ..... when the Police could have no idea about the clue Mts Talbot was pursuing.

I see a lot of similarities to the author, J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter and the Hogwarts school. Note the stripped scarfs and caps on the students plus the focus on football practice which is similar to Quidditch, as well as, the bizarre boarding school and eccentric faculty. Perhaps the author acquired some characteristics from this film as a foundation for her Hogwarts. Idk. Just sayin'! It seems very likely though. She just put a spin of wizards and witches on broomsticks to it.

Humans are the same no matter where we’re from. Good, evil, prideful, hopeful and wonderfully made in Gods image. I love the classics and yes, especially British ones. You Britain’s are Brilliant!! Thank you so much for sharing this gem.

Actually, God was made in man’s image. Just read how violent and jealous and angry. The God of the Old Testament is.. certainly not an entity I would admire

@@Wisepati I believe those of us in The West are more informed by the New Testament, it's probably long overdue that we left the Old to God's bloodthirsty Chosen people.

Thank you so very much for making this lovely film available. It's 2024 and it's near impossible to find film that isn't filled with violence , nudity and poorly written scripts. I was able to escape into a world long past. The acting and the music were excellent. I hope to find more films such as this.

I thundering good film. I need to buy the book. Unfortunately any teacher who dragged a boy to the stove today would probably lose his job. This film has a lot of the spirit of the times, the huge Labour majority, independence for India, like the Norman wisdom films. Wanting a "wind of change" blowing away the stuffiness of the old ways. Here is a funny thing: I feel that I want to say to the conservatives and reformists of those days: make up and unite because the against the vulgariity, stupidity and inelegance of the modern age we need a united front.

@8:50~ Let any modern "teacher" spring such eloquence (If any there be that can) upon today's school children and they'd either stare blankly, or brutally attack 'he/she/it' for their rudeness.

The British public school system is a microcosm of the world at large. The bullying & the humiliations inflicted on those unable to defend themselves is reflected in the lives outside school -- whether in jobs & careers, marriages & family life, friendships & professional/athletic associations. This movie reminds me not only of "Goodbye, Mr.Chips" but also of "Lord of the Flies." The psychological character study of each faculty member is astute, incisive & deeply penetrating. An outstanding cast & a well-written/edited/directed screenplay make this film an invaluable primer on British society whose socio-economic, political & religious strata make the British uniquely British with rules & regulations governing every minutiae of life's waking & sleeping moments. Raymond Huntley portrayed the Bellamy family solicitor on "Upstairs Downstairs." Marius Goring had a long career as a character actor. David Farrar played hunky leading men in many fine films. I briefly attended a parochial school -- the German Evangelical School -- which was considered more private than religious because parochial schools were banned in the Communist country (& in all Communist countries) where I was born. In the socialist country, my family then moved to, I attended an all-girls religious school focusing on academics & athletics, which I loved. I loved school because I loved reading & learning, thinking & daydreaming. I enjoyed athletic competition because it sharpened my physical prowess & mental acuity. I was well-liked by all of my teachers. I enjoyed the cameraderie of school chums. Thank you for uploading this invaluable film whose themes are always timely because human nature according to Hobbes ". . . is mean, nasty & brutish."

It was also suggested to watch, "To Serve Them All My Days." The entire Series is on KZfaq. Personally, i can't conceive of a reason to pay for a tv service while there is so much to watch on the free access KZfaq. Thank you, KZfaq. I truly appreciate you.

In one of the Comments, it was suggested we watch "If...." and i looked it up. Everywhere it was $3.99. Then i--just in case--i ran the inquiry right here--KZfaq--and Voilá! There it was--nearly two hours' long, in English, with Spanish subtitles.
