This is great. I am out if plastic bags 😮

Nope. That’s gross. You’re using plastic bags that had groceries in them. Those grocery items have been touched my a lot of people. I do not want to take the lettuce I just cleaned and put in a dirty plastic bag. No thanks. I’ll stick to my spinner that does a great job of drying my lettuce much quicker and easier.

There is quite a lot of info to address this in the description of this video. No one is using bags that have touched groceries or the ground or anything else. Super happy for you that you love your salad spinner-not sure why calling my mom's kitchen hack gross needs to be in there!

I’m sorry you’re offended, but you didn’t address the fact that you’re using a clean grocery bag. How does one get a “clean” grocery bag? I think there may be other ways that offer less contamination as others have suggested in the comments. Not everyone will find this appealing. I’m glad it works for you, but my mother and I immediately thought about the uncleanliness of those bags.

I tried it with organic Thai brand coconut milk. It tastes ok but it did not thicken. What am I doing wrong? What can I do tothicken it? Thank you!
@WillowJaroshNutrition
@WillowJaroshNutrition 3 ай бұрын
i've found that some batches don't thicken up and some get super thick. I think temperature and ambient bacteria/yeast probably affect this but also potentially the probiotic that you use. I'd probably try again with the same probiotic and coconut milk to see if it works a second time. if not, maybe try a different probiotic strain? to thicken this batch you can stir in a little corn starch or cassava root powder!

If I put 2 capsules in the coconut milk would it increase the amount of probiotics?
@WillowJarosh
@WillowJarosh 3 ай бұрын
It should! Tho it will likely also speed up fermentation, since there will be more bacteria to eat the sugars. so you might want to decrease the time you let it sit. Or, taste it halfway through and see if it's tasting sour.

You would need to use new unused grocery bags or maybe a thin pillowcase would do the job. You could put the pillow case in your washer on spin dry for a few minutes.

I drain lettuce in a colander. I cover a colander with a flour sack towel. Lay the washed greens in the towel covered colander. Then fold the remaining towel over the top of the greens & then shake the covered colander over the sink, moving it in all directions. Done.

it is! you can ensure this a few different ways -- from using the outer bag of a doubled bag to using a large zip top bag fresh from the package to other options like clean pillow cases or mesh bags (if you can spin it outside). Some of the ideas are in the video description and some are within the comments.

You can just use big gallon size ziplock bags and pin prick multiple holes and insert that into and outer good ziplock bag. Open the pin prick zip bag put the wet lettuce inside zip. That bag. Then insert the lettuce pin prick bag into good zip bag zip it and shake around the world like you did. Then unzip the outside bag and then the lettuce. You will get dry lettuce.

The coconut milk (or cream, rather) I use is full fat, organic and has no sugars, natural/added. I’m assuming yours is as well. With no sugars, what exactly are the bacteria feeding on proliferate?
@WillowJaroshNutrition
@WillowJaroshNutrition Жыл бұрын
There's a small amount of naturally occurring sugar in the coconut milk -- not enough to be labeled but enough for the bacteria to initially feed on. Once the process of fermentation starts then some of the bacteria feed on the byproducts of that fermentation. However, if you want to let it ferment a little longer/get a little more sour, adding a small amount of sugar to the coconut milk works!

Hello, Thank you for this detailed video. My name is Dana and I live in Timisoara, Romania. I have tried several times to make coconut yogurt. I used different brands of organic coconut milk and different probiotics and vegan yogurt ferment. I let them ferment 48h, at 78-84Fahrenheit. Each time there was a liquid-separation during fermentation. After 48h, I mix gently and put the 2 jars in the fridge ( temperature: 41F). The fat became solid and form a kind of crust on top. Underneath, there was a sour, runny liquid with the same consistence as milk. Do you have any advice for me? - what am I doing wrong? Thank you, Dana
@WillowJaroshNutrition
@WillowJaroshNutrition Жыл бұрын
Hi! Hmmm I can think of two things to try. I’d try mixing the probiotic into the milk and doing a 24 hour ferment. Or mixing it in and sticking it the fridge to do a slower ferment (so maybe check it after a week in the fridge). The other thing I’m wondering is if you might try stirring it every 30 minutes or so for the first couple hours it’s in the fridge just to prevent the saturated fat from separating on the top and hardening. I hope this helps!! Let me know!

OMG! I was just going to add SALAD SPINNER!!! (just like that with all caps & !!!) to my grocery list because I am CURRENTLY drying lettuce and I’m so frustrated. Last time I dried salad greens, the following morning my husband asked me, “What happened to that new roll of paper towels I put on the holder last night?” So! I decided to check you tube for: “How do I dry lettuce without a salad spinner?” Yours was the first video to pop up, so guess what? I’m going to try it RIGHT NOW! I will reply to my own comment when finished.

Ok. One full head of iceberg lettuce .... dry enough. Worked better than that roll of paper towels the other night. NOW! We all know iceberg and it’s 20 thousand nooks and crannies throughput its entire nutritionless head. But, lately I’ve gotten so sick of that bagged salad, with no crunch or texture. Heck! It doesn’t even get cold! So, instead, I’ve gone back to iceberg as my BASE for all the healthy, nutritious stuff I add. But I digress. I had to give it quite a few spins, then broke it down into smaller chunks. I added about 10 slightly crumpled paper towels to the bag and gave it its final spin. I must say, I’m impressed and the words SALAD SPINNER!!! will not be going on this girls list! Thank you ... and thank your Mom for me.
