I'm looking to change career paths. I have been a teacher and worked in higher ed for quite a few years now. I'm from Southern West Virginia, and have really been considering Schneider to work for and to get my CDL-A. Would you recommend them for a new driver looking to get into the industry?

NO, 90% leave within 90 days! Stay with your present position and try local driving school and local driving jobs that pay by the hour. Big companies will use and abuse you!

It's not a bad place to start. If you get into a good account you can actually do well. Most decent driving jobs want experienced drivers and doors usually open after 6 months. Schneider does a good job with their training. I would think long and hard before getting into trucking, it's not for everyone.

I am enjoying your videos! I just obtained my CDL Class A license a few months ago and I am considering applying to Schneider but I am wondering about a couple of things. The first one, if I have a beard am I required to shave it? The second is, do they allow you to listen to podcasts or radio stations from your cell phone bluetoothed to your radio or earphones while driving? I know some companies don't allow you to even touch your cell phone when driving. The other thing I am concerned about is if you are penalized for something out of your control.. Like the times you mention being held at a center for 5 hours because they are low on fork-lift drivers, etc. I don't want any marks against me for something I can't control. I'm also kind of where you are when you started driving for Schneider as I also create 3D animations and I'm currently working on a virtual reality experience regarding the pre-trip inspection =)

I see lots of drivers with beards so you should be fine. Some people sync their phones through the truck bluetooth and start their podcast before they drive. I believe as long as you are not touching your phone while you drive you are okay.

sounds like you had a good week! I had my first week with no trainer. Longest 5 days of my life!! Haha, not Schneiders fault. Mostly the fault of the tablet (tablet things and the GPS) and even truckerpath. They go crazy with road construction. I guess it's my fault too for not checking every-little-thing in Google maps.

I work for Schneider and I have to say they are a joke. DTLs are worthless and if you have a problem they push you off to someone else. You are just a number as far as this company is concerned. Not sure how much more of the bs i can handle.
@undergroundcargo9608
@undergroundcargo9608 Ай бұрын
Not sure what your situation is like right now, but my recommendation is that you get something else lined up before you do anything. Last thing you want to do is leave and not get something else in the time that you want.
@Dimitrius001
@Dimitrius001 4 күн бұрын
100%. I started out with Schneider. I worked intermodal out of their South El Monte yard in SoCal. I stayed 6 months and GTFO. The ineptitude of their DTL’s and the amount of errors they would make with your load assignments was staggering. Getting sent to old customer addresses where the customer had relocated from years prior in some cases, being sent to pick up loads that had been picked up a week prior, and then not getting paid for your lost time. And they’d run you until almost your 14th hour. You’d think with all those hours worked be making good money, but you’d be lucky to clear over a grand after taxes most of the time. The shame is I liked the work, and the drivers there. The mechanics were cool, and the training I received was excellent, as were my trainers. They would run you though to get every bit of your 11 hours of drive time everyday. Fortunately I put myself through CDL school and wasn’t beholden to them and went to JB Hunt. I know a lot of people trash talk on JBH, and I get it, but my overall experience there has been positive. I work a local dedicated account and make 16-1800/week working 40-50 hours and have a life. If your experience there is similar, start looking at other places. Don’t leave willy nilly. Have something lined up first.

That time they forgot to pay you for 250'ish miles, how'd you prove their mistake? Work ID# you saved?
@undergroundcargo9608
@undergroundcargo9608 Ай бұрын
First make sure it is in your work history in compass/tools when you finish an assignment. Then make sure your pay estimator under compass/tools records the miles increased from the finished assignment. If you don't see both these things after completing your assignment message or call your DTL and let them know you think the assignment didn't close out properly and didn't show up on your pay estimator. Make sure you have the ST# handy as well as your trailer number and pickup and drop off locations. This happens far too often and if you are not pro active, you will not receive your full pay.

Schneider is attempting to push you to that breaking point, it's no mystery that they have a 125% turnover rate. Get your 6 month, or year of experience and get out. That 47 million dollar lawsuit they just got slapped with is going to be passed right onto their employees' backs. Time to start looking for a better company to work for. Your advice on balancing life was excellent, make sure you adhere to it. I'm looking forward to when you put out a video of when you leave Schneider.

@undergroundcargo9608
@undergroundcargo9608 Ай бұрын
Yes and I think so. First couple months will be bumpy no matter what. The most important thing to ask your TE is to ask them to help you get better at backing. Backing is probably the most stressful when you first start off because some of these spots are very tight.

Dave, get the miles you need and get away from Schneider. The company suuuuuuuuucks bad, they see you as a number and don't give a rats ass about you. The altered sticker on your rig is an obvious general consensus. Pay will never be great, delays are a constant, and they get richer while the drivers scrape by. I look forward to your videos when you get out of there.
