For my taste, this tempo for Baba Yaga is a bit fast. You are free to disagree, of course :)

I want the 1st player to play the 1st flute not the piccolo because in most modern performances they use the 1st flute.

I've always considered the ending two pieces of this composition to be flaringly dramatic. The last piece is similar in robust emotionality to the last variation in Brahms' St. Anthony's chorale.

As great as Mussorgsky's original composition was, Ravel's arrangement is like transforming a series of charcoal sketches into vibrant, full-coloured masterpieces.

@@HorstBerbel Andrew Zimmerman. We last spoke in Bayreuth, when Susan was doing Kundry. I sang the Cav/Pag in KTown, and I found the Turridu much harder than Canio. I wish I could of sung it nearly as well as you.

@@pugandblizzard Oh Andrew. How nice to hear from you!! We did have fun in Bayreuth. I wound down my career recently in a huge project at the Hochschule in Dresden where I was a Professor for 11 years. I coached the languages in Bernstein's "Mass" and sang the Celebrant one week after my 68th birthday. Do a search for Bernstein Mass Frauenkirche and scroll to 1:05:40 where the Bernstein starts. It is a shortened concert version and well worth a listen. Am looking for opportunities to give Master Classes in case you hear anything. Where are you and Susan and what are you up to? Hi to Susan!!! Ted

@@HorstBerbel I’m 65 and done, but if Susan takes early retirement, she still has two years at Düsseldorf. So, we’re flying back and forth to Colorado, to the grandkids. We’ll settle there when Susan is done. I’m playing a lot of tuba and trumpet (covid hobbies) and mostly just singing kid’s songs to the babies. I’ll keep an ear out for workshops for you, though I’m pretty out of touch with it all, at least until the kids get older.

É incrível como uma obra antes escrita apenas para piano, teve uma reinterpretação para orquestra com a grandiosidade como a que foi feita por Ravel. É extraordinária.

You know I love classical music but mostly the common composers who are German or English. But about 6 years ago I started to listen to Dvorak and I found this composition by searching the origin of the entrance music of The King from WWE.
