Ditto on tge check valve. I waste at least a gallon of diesel by opening the petcock first. Your way yields only about a pint.

Did you strip the threads on the lower bowl? If so, probably need to replace it.

Just changed both fuel filters and followed your video. Everything worked out perfectly! I liked the way you purged the air after each filter as I was able to check for leaks after each one, instead of having them both to worry about at the same time. For the extra 5 minutes it took, for me, it was worth it! Your video just saved me $150 labour as that’s what the local Ford dealer quoted for the change after the filter purchase. Thank you for your help! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

My pump on the rail was making noise after replacement. Engine light came on stating low fuel pressure, how can you bleed air after filters have already been replaced? Pump is not making noise anymore though?

Can't believe you're not wearing gloves and getting diesel fuel all over you.

Truth be told, I usually wear gloves but I was out this day and wanted to get it done and filmed. I only do this twice or so a year so I felt okay without gloves, but if I did it all the time I would wear PPE for sure.

Went to the pass 30 years ago. Now I’m 65 and have a Honda pioneer 1000-5. Wondering what all do I need for me and my wife and I to safely get to top and how long it would take. Don’t want to push it. Thanks

Great video. Yours is the only one ive found so far recommending to purge after changing the rail filter aaswell as after the engine bay filter. My bro is a Ford Tech and he says to ALWAYS purge in between changing filters. Thanks for showing us DIYers how to do things the proper way. Cheers

Is there any reason why you can’t purge the air after changing both filters instead of doing it twice?
@billmoorman7302

You probably could, but I wanted to make sure it held prime after each filter change just so I could isolate an issue if it occurred!

That is not how to do it… disconnect electrical, spin housing loose several turns, open drain and it will empty the housing out into pan and not all over yourself. There is a check valve that will keep the system from draining the whole tank…

So, did you wait until your fuel level was low? I tried changing mine last night, after getting fuel. It would not stop draining. Huge mess. Wasted 1-2 gallons of fuel and still didn't get it changed. I tightened it all up will try again when the tank isn't so full I guess.
@billmoorman7302
@billmoorman7302 Жыл бұрын
Not really. I looked at the end of the video and it looks like I had 3/4 full. Did you follow the video and crack open the filter housing before opening the drain valve?
@KendrasEdge757
@KendrasEdge757 Жыл бұрын
That’s because you didn’t break the siphon first. You gotta open the housing 3-4 turns and then it’ll stop draining and you can remove the filter. If you just open the valve it creates a siphon and it’ll theoretically drain the tank. You can also change both filters, or the upper filter and lower fuel/water separator and THEN prime the system 6-7 times. You don’t need to prime it twice once in between the lower and upper and once after. That’s just overkill.
@FormerGorilla
@FormerGorilla Жыл бұрын
Thanks guys. I waited until I had about 1/2 tank then also twisted it until I had 3-4 turns (maybe more) before cracking the bleeder. It did stop gushing fuel and I was able to get it changed.
@KendrasEdge757
@KendrasEdge757 Жыл бұрын
@@FormerGorilla yeah i noticed you did that and figured you already knew that. People also need to be draining it monthly for about 10sec from what a diesel tech told me. I just keep a quart mason jar for that and then let it sit for 24hrs so if you do have any water it’ll separate from the diesel. High quality diesel fuel from high turnover stations, change your fuel filters every 10-15k miles, use a good additive at every fillup, and you’re less likely to have any CP4 failures down the road. Great video! A lot of people screw this up by either NOT swapping the O-Rings, not tightening the case up to the stop, or tightening it past the stop and cracking their housing. Good for stressing that on here as well!

I also liked how you showed to purge it every stage(lower filter then upper) Thx again, I will be following your videos.

If you replace both at the same time and then purge the air afterward, and then the truck doesn't start, you don't know whether something went wrong during the primary filter replacement or the secondary replacement. Just my two cents...
