My daily average screentime on my phone is literally 9 minutes. The highest I've ever seen it in the last 2 years was 29 minutes and that's only cause I was walking more often so I was opening it to change my songs more frequently. I also think it's unreasonable and blatantly and objectively wrong to call screentime "an alternate universe" when what you do on your devices causes very real impacts on yourself on your others, like even with this video, you're influencing people. People make money online and do lots of things that actually matter so I always find the "phone bad" rhetoric to be a reductive projection. Like I've never had a TikTok or Instagram account and the moment I saw KZfaq shorts being added, I looked up if there was an extension to disable them and haven't gone without it since. I think the primary reason all of these issues exist and the reason why people don't address them seriously as often as they should is because it's inherently political, and it's inherently a rightwing and conservative thing and we live in a very leftwing and liberal society. You can't just tell people to not be promiscuous, not use drugs, and have kids. Plus there's a very dramatic divide between the sexes. There's so many guys like you and me who're abundantly aware of these issues, but there's only so much we can do. Like you said it yourself that you don't really have friends, and you're not even the problem. I'm in a similar boat though I have way more problems to work on. I've tried so many things to go outside and socialize but there's so few young guys outside, and socializing with women is even harder and completely different. There are a lot more guys who'll agree that these liberal and modernistic behaviors are bad, but people, especially women don't care as much. If you tell a bunch of people these things, so many dudes like me are going to think you're preaching to the choir while a lot of women would either disagree outright or would think it's some profound viewpoint they never thought about before, and then would immediately forget about it. What I'm saying is extremely offensive, but true and that's why people don't want societal improvement. Addressing the behavioral and belief differences between men and women opens a giant can of worms that most people want to deny because they don't want to acknowledge that exclusive roles are better for society. Like you can say that promiscuity is bad, and you'll have a lot of both men and women both agreeing and disagreeing, but you'll have dramatically more women disagree with men. My mom cheated on my dad, and my sisters helped her cover it up, and told me that I'm a bad person for not supporting my mom cheating on my dad. However it goes both ways sometimes. My grandfather cheated on his wife and had my dad illegitimately. My grandfather told my uncles, but not my aunts. However that was a long time ago. In modern times, I think it's very clear how sexual positivity is more of a feminine thing when it's clearly directly tied to the feminism movement. Traditionally, women couldn't work well on their own so they had to marry. They'd have and raise children in exchange for their husband's wealth and security. Now women can and do work so they aren't nearly as incentivized to be monogamous. For many women, they get more benefit from dating around. It's more fun for them in the moment, and they can potentially gain even more wealth from free meals, moving in with different guys, gifts from multiple boyfriends, men paying for trips, ect. This created the idea of women and even men "playing the field" and waiting until their looks fade to settle down and become monogamous. So with all that considered, it's clear why women are far more protective of promiscuity when compared to traditional structures, they have much more freedom and things to gain now. Like men, women obviously want more attractive partners, and they still want financial support from their partners. Therefor like men women chase the partners they deem most attractive in those regards. However these women forgo monogamy. That means the men they chase often aren't monogamous either. That means many polygamous women have relationships with a smaller group of polygamous men. This is a statistically supported phenomenon. This was and still is a problem in even in more traditionalist and misogynist societies that were polygynist like Islam. That's how Jihadist were able to be so powerful. They literally weaponized sexual frustration by promising men female partners in the afterlife if they died for their army. In our society, most sexually frustrated and romantically alone men don't do much which is the theme of the video. That's why so many of us turn to entertainment. How can you possibly address these issues without insulting women and male feminist? You really can't. That's why positive change will never happen. I strongly disagree with the whole echochamber segment of the video. Political discussions are extremely important. "Echochambers" are literally a personal problem. I see leftwing content everyday, does that make me a leftist? Hell no. I literally watch Christian KZfaqrs pretty regularly despite being an atheist. There's not a single person I've ever met or seen that I could wholeheartedly agree with on multiple topics. It's perfectly okay to consume political content. If you feel like consuming political content threats you than that's probably just because you as an individual is way too easy to persuade. I'm a very rightwing guy, and I first became such from living around leftwingers and liberals and see their philosophies destroy themselves and me firsthand. When I sought out rightwing content as a kid, I agreed with some stuff sure, but ironically I was a Christian then, and most of the guys I watched were atheists I couldn't stand when it came to politics. Judge people on what they do, not what they say. Don't build opinions on a political ideology based on what the ideology says, but what it does. It's not hard. I feel like forcing yourself to ignore politics is neutering yourself and deliberately ignoring important problems that you might be able to help change if you cared.

Thanks brother. I’m gonna give you a seemingly really simple and obvious piece of advice, but it’s the only thing that works for me. Just delete it. Delete the apps off your phone right now. Just commit to deleting them now. You may redownload them in 20 minutes or 2 days time. But I think that if you’ve never deleted them before, the biggest hurdle is just simply pressing the delete button. Overcome that hurdle and you’re already halfway there. Give it a shot and lmk how you get on. They don’t have to be deleted forever, it’s just taking the first step.

Wise man...i think very good idea is to limit social media use with the tools you already have in your phone...you can set timer on apps, i did 15 and then 10 minutes on facebook and instagram and it looks like little but its still adds up to hours every week of time wasted...and then after some time its much easier to erase the whole app, because its just a couple of minutes

This is a pretty neat video of the ‘phone bad, book good’ genre. I definitely agree with you about the screen time, I often think about how much time I waste consuming content rather than doing something of value. The way you talked gave me that feeling of dread, you’re definitely good with emotive language. With the people progression and procreation segment, you probably know most young people don’t focus on these things as much as the past generations because most of them can’t afford houses or get good opportunities and in fact it isn’t party cultures entire fault, but I get why you disregarded it to push your point. Just be cautious about missing facts because you’ll get annoying know it alls (me basically) in your comments going “erm… actually 🤓” The video was concise and easy to follow!! You have a pretty strong voice and it sounds like you did it all in one take, or you’re just good at editing! This video essay deserves more views honestly, and happy belated birthday 🎉

Thanks very much for the comment! Fair point about affording houses/families/opportunities and such, it definitely plays a role too. I would have to question your proposition that people have less opportunities though - do people genuinely have less opportunities, or are they less capable of spotting said opportunities because their heads are stuck in the sand (or rather in their phones)? Of course though, we’re both over-generalising and both sets of logic would have to have nuance and caveats applied to them (like demographics, backgrounds, etc.), so I understand where you’re coming from. Glad you enjoyed the video overall though, and thanks for commenting!

Housing is like the tertiary cause. Most people can afford a place to live even if they're renting. Some people also have supportive family's that'd help as well. The primary problem is that there's no enough people who genuinely want to have kids while they're young. Out of those people, many of them simply aren't fit to do so in their lives yet or ever for reasons like housing as you said, but also for many others. Then there's also not enough of those people who want to have kids and who're fit to have kids who can also find a member of their opposite sex to satisfyingly partner with. It's literally not even a choice for some people. Also yes, people do read About pages.

@@TadhgMiddleton It's statistically visible that young people live with their parents dramatically more than they used to, and I shouldn't have to explain why the overall economy contributes to that. I'm also speaking from an American perspective so keep that in mind. It's very objective that the average person has worse opportunities. I'm just not having kids while living with my parents. It has nothing to do with my phone.

Your video has been very insightful and although I've had similar thoughts and comments on the subject before, I never would've been able to pick out the the words that precisely convey those thoughts as perfectly as you have, nor would I had been able to reach the same ideas and conclusion as you. I personally find no appeal in posting what I think or do on any of my social media accounts but I have seen a few of the people I once knew who do so almost excessively. Even if I don't choose to unfollow them or cut ties with them, I have found myself struggling in trying to relate with or care about them now as their life seems so far and distant from my own. In fact, I'm sure that if I were to cut them off completely at this very moment, I wouldn't feel any sorrow, regret or guilt. It's upsetting to think that had I just not known anything about whatever it is they've been up to, I'm sure that our next reunion would've been more pleasant. But since I already know what they've been up to, I feel no desire to want to know more, nor do I feel like wanting to share my own current events with them. Apologies for the wall of text, I suppose not sharing my opinions and thoughts as frequently tends to lead to me dumping too much the moment I do share.

Good food for thought. I think our mind is quite creative in giving us reasons why not to do something it doesn't really enjoy to do. And now in this day and age there are opposing opinions on everything, so it is easy to find something that sports your worldview even if it is incorrect. I think the "intelligent" way is to try stuff, track progress and see if it works (for you). That is why a lot of people start their improvement with some physical training. Because this approach is kind of obvious and also you can easily see with your eyes people who changed what they are doing making physically visible chamges. @@mitchelllee879 I’d always say follow your gut, and give it time. Such basic ass advice I know, but honestly, in the long run it seems to always work out for me at least. Thank you for commenting

Minimize expenses in every way that you can with the abilities or knowledge that you have. I do pretty much everything myself that is my strength and also my weakness as well I don't get help when I probably should however it has still put me ahead overall because it is a strength not just a weakness. Cook, vehicle repair, home repair, teeth maintenance(dr. ellie philips method and some stainless dental toosl), adjustable dumb bells, cut fire wood, plumbing, electrical, business. etc. Although I may have a window guy do my glass it's easier to pay him. Brain fog perhaps eat some healthy meat like beef or salmon and fast too. Water only. Reduces inflammation which I think helps with the brain fog everyone has noticed after the cuuve. Feed the good microbiome, starve the bad.

Fantastic comment, thank you for this. Water fasting is such a game changer. Actually gonna do a water fast cycle again soon. Thanks for the reminder
