Thanks for this video! I'm a complete newbie, and I followed to a T. However when I put the bit rate high, it about halved my hours left of storage on my SD card. From what I researched, high bitrate is good when there's a ton of movement and action. Underwater, I wonder if standard is sufficient (to achieve double the storage space)? What do you think? Thanks again!
@scottbauerbelow
@scottbauerbelow 2 күн бұрын
Yeah you are correct…if storage is more of a concern I would set the bitrate to standard…it’s a fair trade off

Just FYI: I was a Deputy back in the 80's in Comal County. Comal park was open all the time back then and at the point, people would drive stolen vehicles off into the water. There was also an owner of a San Antonio massage parlor that had a fight with a boyfriend at the point. He or she decided to end it all and drove into the lake where they both drowned. It was rumored that they had about $150,000 cash in a briefcase with them. Don't remember if that was ever found. We had a San Marcos Dive Team look for it and help recover the bodies and vehicle. Another location for stolen vehicle dumped into the lake was at the Cypress Cove boat ramp. During a low lake period in 1986, tops of stolen cars were visible off the end of the boat ramp. We had wreckers coming out for several days pulling cars out. The San Antonio news media and the FBI came out after a rumor started that Harry "Bunny" Eckart, a local gambler/gangster's body was in the trunk of one of the cars. A body was never found and never was Bunny Eckert. Canyon Lake and Comal County have a lot of secrets that have never been resolved.

On Decommissioning Only Its Topside - the part of the platform above the waterline - is lifted out of the sea and shipped to a specialist decommissions Area . Everything Below the Waterline , Remains , as you see it here .

Not necessarily, if it is accepted into the rigs to reefs program (which takes a lot of funding) the bottom part will remain. However it will be cut off at a depth of 70-90 feet…if it is not reefed the whole structure will be removed

Back in the early/mid 80's Canyon Lake had some of the BEST wall and grotto dives in Texas. The vis was 15-20' usually and there were places with sheer walls 40', 50' and more. Several of the grottos captured air. You could be down at 40', swim in one like that big one in the beginning, surface and chat with your buddy. Just terrific dives. We never ever went in very far, always kept the opening in view, Cavern Diving Specialty. Travis has a few areas like this, mainly down by the dam at LCRA park, under Hippie Hollow, and at the dive park. But if you liked wall dives and grottos, Canyon was your dive.
@scottbauerbelow
@scottbauerbelow 6 күн бұрын
It still is one of the best lakes for wall diving lol…the vis has gone down a little bit recently because of the lower lake levels but over the past few years it has been amazing with great vis! I have a few more videos on this channel about these dives, feel free to check them out!

@@scottbauerbelow That's one big benefit of the lake being down so much. The silt will dry up and blow away, so when the lake fills, especially a flood, once the water calms down the vis will be amazing and nothing to stir up.

At 7:03 the OP explains that they were swimming towards an intake pipe. Given the size of the pipe, the OP explains that it could have been a dangerous situation if the pipe was actively running.

The Frio river starts further upstream from concan near the town of Leakey, named for John Leakey who first claimed a deed at the springs that combine with rain runoff. Leakey springs are on private property and some of the land was at one time owned by Frank Sharp, founder of Sharpstown in sw Houston and principal player in the Sharpstown bank scandal. Interesting video and intriguing cinematography thank you fir sharing

Very informative and very helpful because I just unboxed my GoPro today and did not know where to start with… 🙈 I think I know what I need to do now. 2 questions I have if I may. ☝🏼🙄 1. Can I see a live preview with the quick App while filming? 2. Din you use your GoPro in a water protection case while scuba diving?

did you dive any reefs on a rig that has been removed in the last 4 or 5 years? like 100'-120'? i was on the dive crew who removed the last oil rig at the flower gardens
@swim2kill
@swim2kill 26 күн бұрын
i did a job tearing down the last oil rig right by the flower gardens. it was long grueling job. we cut it down from 120' below the surface and left the rest for more coral reef. it was the most beautiful diving I have ever done. we do a lot of work in the brown water gulf so that was a special job.

i dive those all the time for a living. very familiar with oil rig diving, being a commercial diver and all lol. i have removed a lot of those. sometimes when we remove them we leave some of the base for a reef. I did a job near the flower gardens where we cut down a rig and left a lot of it 100' down for reef formation. beautiful places to dive and also great places to spear fish. as a diver i am very familiar with barracuda. they love hanging out and checking us out during the last couple deco stops. i am convinced barracuda are a lot more clever than anyone gives them credit for. so curious and inquisitive

The thing is... believe or not, I've had a Chinese made cheep camera SJCAM (The original) about £35 in UK 8 years ago. Package with all accessories. Video images are exactly the same. I am using it only for my scuba & free dives. Everyone is keep asking me if was GoPro or any other expensive camera. The only thing missing was lack of stabilisation. Don't get me wrong. Action 4 is great camera and more advanced.

do you think the HDR mode would allow you to see better when you're looking down into water from a boat or something? kinda like how polarized glasses help you see deeper in the water
