I thank you for all your videos. I always had questions and I've searched 100 of videos but your videos always have the answer. I had stopped playing when I stopped progressing a few months before but your videos on control and tension and why I'm stuck on a tempo will certainly help a lot.

There is no good comfortable position when it comes to the electric guitar. Whether you keep it on the right leg or left in both cases you will feel some discomfort. It also depends on the scale length of the neck. Shorter necks are more comfortable. And then there are multiple other factors. Guitar manufacturers don't pay enough attention in ergonomics in my opinion. It is all the same for decades without much improvement. Like politics, very slow in making progress.

if you do this all, you play like a robot. lets break the limit. all you do is use swiping picking it allows you whatever position because it dont depend on the right hand but in the left hand.

Can this guy play a song playing fast the ability to play fast it's a great tool to or ability to have but playing guitar isn't just to play fast playing fast all the time just one speed fast would make someones playing sound like crap the ability to shred it's a tool but it shouldn't be the only tool one should have.
@audioexpeditions

The ability to be able to shred determines how good the technique of your playing is, of course speed is not the only tool and you shouldn't only be focusing on speed, but to focus of the minute details of your playing and correct them

Less than 90% of people have fast twitch muscles and can sprint. These same people will likely have varying degrees of predominantly slow twitch muscles in their hands and forearms and will never be able to shred.

Damn. Bernth taught me to play with a closed grip though. There's alotta contradictory information about optimal guitar playing
@arunkarthikma3121
@arunkarthikma3121 14 күн бұрын
I'd say that Bernth's teaching is an example of a guitar teaching "framework". It works, for teaching, but your hand will slowly adapt to bringing the pick closer to the wrist at higher speeds.
@arunkarthikma3121
@arunkarthikma3121 14 күн бұрын
A good example of such a "framework" is Classical Guitar position, where the thumb stays behind the index finger. It's like training wheels for legato. It's a good framework, but the thumb eventually moves around all over the place, during fast passages.

I have a lot of work to do. I watched some other KZfaq videos and ended up getting around 20bpm faster after lots of practice, but watching this video I realized I am doing a lot of things wrong. Im glad I realized on my own something in this video which I did correct. Back to the basics again.

Mike, the last few days I was working on improving relaxation at high speeds. I came across an interesting fact: speed scaling is NOT linear. I agree with the video and what Shawn Lane says BUT, just because you can pick clearly and steady at 160 it doesn't mean the same applies to 100. Let me explain: take a simple phrase (lest say 4 chromatic notes per string, Petrucci style) and do the whole drill, start around 80, then increase 5 bpm until you hit 160 (or whatever speed you feel comfortable at your top range). You'll notice that you start relaxed and very controlled, but around the middle (around 100 or so) you start to tense up. The technique for playing slow hit a break point and needs readjust (relaxation, less motion range) to overcome tension. Then you start getting comfortable again until you hit another similar break point, at around 160 more or less. Again your technique needs to readjust. Also you start having problems to pick mainly from your wrist and start adding a lot more elbow than before. So, the point: even thou you have to practice fast to address problems at high speed, if you don't play covering the whole range you'll also miss problems that arise by playing at medium speeds. The benefit of starting slow is revealing problems on the whole range instead only on the top speed, if that's your goal of course. On a side note, I don't think even Petrucci can play at 200 bpm exclusively from the wrist. It obvious to me that he readjusts at least 2 times on the whole range ¿What do you think?

When you play rhythm with chords etc do you angle the pic? I have been doing a few things correctly and a few incorrectly. I am adapting to angling the pick for notes. However, I think angling the pick for strumming may be different. What is your recommendation?
