Sir this is by far the best video on principal stresses and strain, sir however I have this small doubt regarding plane stres, why do we analyse the stress in a single plane and ignore the other two planes because in real world everything is in 3d, doesn't that affect the calculation if we analyse on a single plane only?

You concern is genuine. However the 3D case you described is something that is covered in Advanced Mechanics of Solids. If you do an M.Tech in Machine Design, you will need to pass this course. I must appreciate your thinking and outlook on this matter. All the best in future endeavors.

For anyone wondering how angle is dx/2 on other side. Split angle dx in two parts dx/2 and dx/2 . First find the unknown angle in the 📐 with force F and resultant R which would be (90-dx/2) Then the force line which 180degree with a angle tension unknown lets call it angle(y). Force F and Tension T will form a 90degree angle as 📐 Y= 180-90-(90-dx/2) Y=180-90-90+dx/2 Hence , angle(Y)=dx/2
