Purgatory isn't Scriptural or logical. The Catholic Church denies the imputation of Christ's righteousness, denies the suffering of Christ as sufficient to make full atonement, and denies justification by faith alone. Since Christ suffered for sins to justify sinners, there is no rationale behind additional purging.

@@FaithFPC Scripture is very clear when it says, “But nothing unclean shall enter heaven” (Rev. 21:27). Hab. 1:13 says, God is “of purer eyes than to behold evil and cannot look on wrong…” How many people will be perfectly sanctified when they die?

@@FaithFPC You may want to read I Corinthians 3:11-15, which is the most explicit reference to Purgatory in Scripture: “For no other foundation can any one lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if any one builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble-each man’s work will become manifest; for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done. If the work which any man has built on the foundation survives, he will receive a reward. If any man’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss, though he himself will be saved, but only as through fire.” That’s Purgatory.

@@FaithFPC And yeah-we absolutely deny the man-made and unbiblical doctrine of faith alone. It’s a prot invention from only 500 years ago and wasn’t ever taught or believed for the first 1500 years of Christianity.

I hope you will pursue a study of Scripture and abandon contradictory traditions of men.

We would not have much of a New Testament if the Church always got things right. It is a challenge to maintain and sweeten the fellowship of saints. May the Lord revive His people and fill hearts with love produced by the Spirit.

It would be asinine to suggest the modern Roman Catholic Church reflects the church as it was in the days of the Church Fathers (like the era in which Patrick lived). Luther believed the modern iteration of the RCC began with Pope Gregory I, around 590 AD. Aside from that, the point was more about doctrine and how a sinner is justified.
