You have to be teenager in the 70s to understand what Deep Purple was, I bought Made in Japan album from local drug store they were the biggest band in the world in 73 and 74 then Blackmore left 1975, ask band's from the 80s 90s what Purples influence is.

Great Review! This album has been given a fair bit of stick, especially by the "Bring Tom Back" fans. It's a solid album - by far not their greatest piece of work, but it has some really good tunes that are getting unfairly criticised. Serge is and always will be the heartbeat of Kasabian . Him & Tom are both great frontmen, but it's great to see Serge continue the legacy.

I didn't think Beguiled was that great. It was okay. If they are gonna release synth music and if he's gonna say he's trying to make relevant music (he thinks synth is relevant-tho Beguiled had a hard riff so that's a popular thing too) than why were none of the singles synth? I felt like, on the first part of the record, there were some songs that possibly could've broke them through into success in a different genre. Then again I thought Wyttch should've been a hit. Same with Anno Satana. Spellbinding was too pop 90s sounding. Their choice of singles puzzles me. Ramona? Get real. Releasing that killed the album. I'm sick and am sedated at 4AM so forgive these long posts guys.

I have liked all the albums. The problem tho with Atum ( along with the hype of a sequel of 33 songs) was he clearly has it in his mind as a musical and so much of the album is filler that doesn't work well on an album. Hopefully he will get his full idea developed physically one day. But Cyr had some great stuff. He is getting a bit too wordy with his lyrics. I would prefer a more Shiny Oh so Bright sound (or even the old school band sound). Better yet give us some metal (We heard it on Mellon Collie a couple places.) But I am all for something totally new. I like synth music personally. But I agree Chamberlain needs to be drumming more. And SP...please tour with a good band. No more Green Day. Tour with Deftones (Chino admires you), NIN, just somebody decent who is a bit similar in spirit. I mean hopefully you get enough money flowing to complete all your projects (Full Machina re-release please!).

Having listened to it several times, I give it 3 out of 5. I resisted listening to anything before this. McBried is more of a fit but classic sound of DP? No. 53mins over a 2 disc vinyl at 45rpm? Feels a bit of a rip off. When you consider the last Saxon album, the latest BCC V vinyl, the Scorpions last offering? The track lazy sod (= whitesnake,) sums it up. After all, BCC did 3 sides of new stuff and a 4th of live to fill. Why didn't Purple? Ho, yeah, new live LP incoming. It's got essences of whitesnake, gillan, not a bad thing, but after the first side, portable door, it falls of a bit. Picks up a bit, but I just feel a bit cheated. Most of the songs are too similar, Gillans vocals are talky, Airey is great, Brian does what a former six stringer always said, that less is more, which is why he is a better fit. Well, spunk over it as much as you want but I expected more. Lazy sod will be a crowd fave. Peace out.

Like your review highlights for me are Bus’, ‘Raze the Bar’ ‘Alive’, ‘Home’, ‘Naked In New York’, and ‘The River’. I think “Live It All Again” could be better the vocals could be more clear with that one. Also on that one I have to listen very closely I feel a little to close and follow along with the lyrics. “L.A. Time” has the same problem with the vocals being soft spoken. The problem I find with “I Hope that You Spontaneously Combust” is there are moments when, the instrumentation kind of messes with the vocals a little bit at times. So I don’t think it’s there best in anyway, but it still has some great songs I really like and some. It good to the point it easy for me to explain my thoughts on it and what I don’t like about it doesn’t bother me to the point I hate thoes songs, I just feel they could be better. One last thing the amount of swearing is for me and other Travis songs kind of off putting in L.A. Times. As a fan that isn’t what I want in a Travis song.
