Ahh this brings back some very happy memories! (I did IM Wales in 2016). I was wondering whether the roads were as narrow as I remembered in places - it certainly looks like it here! Glad there were no cars on the road when I was doing some of those descents that would be fairly terrifying 😆

This is a terrible example of side kick. The entire point of the drill is good body position with the hips, heels and head all on the surface and as much of the arm out of the water as possible with the arm laying flat on the side not twisted around on the butt. This guys hips are way below the surface and feet even lower. The plane of the chest should be perpendicular to the water surface, not turnedd toward the bottom of the pool. This coach does not know what he is doing. Awful teaching technique.
@TriTrainingHarderLLP
@TriTrainingHarderLLP 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your feedback Bob - some interesting food for thought there. We make it clear that this is how we teach the drill, we should also point out that we teach the drill (any drill) and apply it to the swimmer as an individual. So though you find some coaches aim to fit the swimmer to a perpendicular position rigidly (and we mention it in the video), it really depends on the swimmer's shoulder range of motion - you can see they seem to set themselves each breath and gradually fade from that position as they go. Equally, the purpose of putting the arm on their butt is actually to assist in setting the shoulders and ensuring good posture which is key to body position and also alignment, which this drill is also excellent for. It does depend on what you are wanting to do. We certainly don't think there is only one way of doing the drill! You are correct in observing the swimmer's hips may be considered "low", and sure, where possible the hips can be higher. However, in this position, it is difficuly for most swimmers to hold their feed up. Partly due to the speed of doing the drill and also due to the direction of the balancing propulsion of the swimmer's kick. If this is something you would want to be looking to improve, then that is ok. We may have to agree to disagree with that one! We'd hope to get people a little closer to improving their swimming and if this video or any of our videos doesn't help you specifically, then that is upsetting, but let's not forget that there are other ways to instruct aside from you tube! We are confident our coaches poolisde would help to fill any gaps from the video, the theory and the swimmer. It is a shame you find this all so terrible and that we are "awful". However, having been coaching swimmers as an organisation for many years now, we know that at least some of what we say may work as we are seeing improvements even with world champs and top swimmers!

fkes ngr it mirrors the swimming position and thus body position thereby making the drill more specific to front crawl swimming. You can of course do a similar drill with your head out the water but we find this more effective for the coaching points made! Also you can watch your hands if needs be!

It can be if you are able to conserve your momentum on the way up after some of the rolling hills. It is not a flat bike course, but there is no 'designated' climbs. The run is very flat and fast along the sea front. This blog: tritrainingharderllpblog.blogspot.co.uk/2016/09/elaine-garvican-ironman-weymouth-race.html is from last year's full distance race, but gives an athlete's perspective of the race and certainly provides some useful insights. Good luck! Philip Hatzis (on behalf of Tri Training Harder)

For the half IRONMAN, there is about 900m of climbing, so it isn't that flat! It is very much one of those rides where you are going up or down. It is good and rolling though...the run is flat!

I am able to stay on a line with the left hand extended. With the other hand and breathing on the non dominant side, I find myself veering off. Is there a way I can correct this ?
@TriTrainingHarderLLP
@TriTrainingHarderLLP 8 жыл бұрын
+Antara Arvind There is a whole dos of different reasons for this happening, but this is a great example of functional core and stability which is lacking to your non-dominant side. Do you still have your head pointing forwards?
@antaraarvind5069
@antaraarvind5069 8 жыл бұрын
My head is not pointing directly forward in either hand position. The problem is quite bad on the dominant side and is quite forgiving on the . How do we get core stability. I have tried sucking in the belly button as much as possible to get a stable core.
@TriTrainingHarderLLP
@TriTrainingHarderLLP 8 жыл бұрын
+Antara Arvind Core stability can best be developed with a specific strength and conditioning coach or through one of our coaches. We couldn't really say specifically without seeing you swim/how you moved. Planks or Bunkies tests are a good place to start. As for the head position it doesn't need to be pointing directly forwards, it just needs to be staying still on a line pointing forward. I.e. inline with the black line. Does that make sense?

Why is his hip so low ?
@TriTrainingHarderLLP
@TriTrainingHarderLLP 8 жыл бұрын
+anil mathew Mainly from taking a breath and the slower speeds of the swimmer. As a guy, he is less likely to be quite so buoyant, hence the relatively low hips. Also, due to the fact that the feet are kicking along the horizontal, and not the vertical, the adjustment of balance gained by the swimmer's legs is less than it would be if he was kicking vertically. That said, it could be a lot worse. Notice, the drill is less about the position of the swimmer from that position rather the alignment which is longitudinal.
@waltonclark7580
@waltonclark7580 2 жыл бұрын
He has a little bit too much of a gap between head and arm which causes the hip to drop. If he raises arm closer to head that will flatten him out.

this is not a proper flying mount, once you jump, your feet should leave the ground and not touch it again, she leaves her left leg on the ground for the entire mount, it makes it alot slower
