What was the speed of the truck? The speed is highly importance as 8 seconds at 60 mps is different that 8 seconds at 10 mps as the varying speed generates different heat therefore burn thru is faster at higher speeds.

This begs the question, why is 500/600D so common if worse then regular jeans?

It's cheap and strong enough for chassis material but for impact and high risk zones it should be and almost always is doubled up with some thicker, load spreading or high tensile material. One aspect not explored in this type of test is high impact. Cotton denim will most likely tear open due to low tensile strength, whereas 500/600D polyester and nylon might not but will abrade through quicker.
@christopherhurren629
@christopherhurren629 6 ай бұрын
@@martinfoster5163500/600D polyester and nylon are not better in burst resistance when we did this testing when compared to the denim by itself. They predominantly failed in burst on chip seal. The synthetic fibres are used in garments as they have minimal water absorption and can enable water resistant garments to be made. In our testing we have seen many textile garments and they predominantly only have one layer of 500 or 600D nylon or polyester in the high risk zones. If manufacturers did as you said and provided two layers of protective materials in the high risk zones we would see protective textiles improve in the MotoCAP star ratings and their protection levels for riders.

I love this kind of testing and hate to nitpick. However, I've done such tests myself and believe there are some improvements that could be made. First of all, this is an abrasion test to verify the Cambridge machine which provides a relative abrasion test. Not a crash simulation. The only thing that changes is the surface on which the relative abrasion test stimulates. So, I think a crash test simulation with a drop from rider height and an anatomically shaped sample holder would improve the efficacy of such a test. The drop height for zone 1 and 2 could be 1 metre (because that's what EN1602 uses). This would be about pelvis height on a rider. Also, at a greater speed which could be determined by average real crash data. Let's say 45 km/h. Then the sample would be allowed to come to a standstill under it's own friction. Or just keep come to a standstill over a set distance. Zone 3 and 4 could just use the 50mm drop height because these are not considered impact zones. I didn't just make this up. These are the numbers suggested by Dr Roderick Woods in published studies but not implemented by CE EN13595. This is a major deficiency in both MOTOCAP's and EN13595's protocols. The most damage is usually on impact with high kinetic loads. Sliding under just static load is much less damaging. Also, it far better simulates any tendency for grab which a material might be susceptible to. Pads should be included for zone 1 and not for zone 2. A leather jacket such as shown in the video would definitely have multiple layers of either extra cowhide or foam or a textile (typically aramid). So I think that's not correct to say "leather jacket" and use a single layer of cowhide. All my leathers jackets have multiple layers in zone 1 and 2. Tests should be done at hot temperatures when most riders prefer to ride. I think there would be a loss of performance in textiles (nylon/poly/UHMWPE) at higher road surface temperatures. Whereas leather and aramid would be unaffected.

What if you're female and wear heels? I don't even know what im looking for here
@AutoEngineerVideos
@AutoEngineerVideos 3 ай бұрын
The title of the video says it all: EARLY autism (ie: the autistic gait in young children, not in adults). If a female wears high heels (not just while "playing dress-ups"), she isn't a young child, and she isn't in the EARLY stages of childhood development as someone with autism. When someone is old enough to make the choice to wear high heels, if she's autistic she'll either show signs of severe autism or she can articulate her experience enough for a professional to diagnose her. It's inherently obvious that the gait research is for screening young children so they can get the developmental help they need early enough to have the best results in life. While it's good to diagnose and treat adults (and I do note that due to women masking more than men, the diagnosis of women is more difficult than the diagnosis of men), it's better to diagnose people while they're still children (when spotting the difference between someone with mild ASD and neurotypical children can be very difficult due to masking tendencies - a trait more prevalent in girls than boys, making the gait research very beneficial for girls with ASD), as that's when the interventions will have the most benefit for the life of the person.

@@christopherhurren629 thanks Chris. I have a lot of questions! If we had to try to relate the drop test to an impact / crash speed (or speed range) what speed would we be talking about? Do you have similar videos for level 2 and perhaps a sneaky vid of any sample,of level 3 prototype laying around? How close does that chalk bundle model bone strength? And in the vein of oils ain’t oils, assuming that a certification to a level implies meeting a minimum standard, does MotoCAP have enough data to be able to show differences in performance of different brands /shapes/designs within certified armour levels? Lol That is probably enough for now. Happy to save some or all of these for the next time we chat face to face, or PM, but when I speak to riders and rider groups, some often equate armour to a magic force field or crumple zone, so putting some sense of what real world realistic degree of protection it does offer might help reduce some risk compensation behaviours that might be lurking in riders riding MO and understanding. For example, I use a talking point that level 2 armour at a full impact of30kmh might be able to reduce what would otherwise have been broken bone to a fracture. It may not be exactly correct, but I think it serves to demonstrate the orders of magnitude of protection offered by rider PPE… (which I use to help underscore the importance then of riding skilfully and safely as primary safety) Thx in advance!

@@robsalvv5853MotoCAP utilises the EN1621 drop test for measuring impact energy absorption. It simulates that amount of force a knee, hip, shoulder or elbow would have striking the ground in a low side crash. This is gravity effects and not forward momentum. We use the fragile nature of the chalk to show people how impact protectors can absorb energy in a crash and why wearing one is better than not wearing one. Just showing someone performance numbers on a computer screen for the normal test is not very impactful. I look forward to a lengthy discussion next time we meet.

Can this be improved? My son is 12 and is in cross country. His peers do the two mile run in anywhere from 12 to 18 minutes. He does it in 22 to 24 minutes. He doesn't really run. He shuffles and is very unbalanced. What can I do to help him?
@charfu
@charfu 11 ай бұрын
You need to take him to a doctor. They can definitely do a lot, largely through physical therapy. Then after physical therapy, which will teach him proper gait over a prolonged period, he'll have more understanding of how to control his body, and he'll be able to learn how to run. It's very important for him to fix this now before he gets older, he is probably already outcasted to an extent.

Most people, even children, will intuitively prefer to walk in a straight line. Autism frequently effects both gait and balance, and so Autistic people may have a sort of odd wavy looking path. Watch again and see how the child lists to either side

Some additional ways gait is impacted is a lack of a "bounce", everything from the waist up looks to sort of float forward, and the second common way is walking on ones toes.
