Hello, is it possible to mix diffrent Mast, like Ezzy Sails do? For example 370 Base with 400 Top? Rocky
@Unifiber9 күн бұрын
Yes, it is possible to mix and match base and top considering RDM or SDM diameter components. So regardless of curve / length / carbon content as we apply a close to universal mast wall thickness too.

Dont get the idea behind the PVC Window? The Mast there is not that well protected like with padded stuff?
@Unifiber22 күн бұрын
It allows you to see which mast is inside. This is convenient when you have a few stored or in your car, eliminating the need to rummage through all the mast bags to find the one you need. The flap is padded, so the mast can safely rest upright or be protected from accidental bumps by the trunk door.

Note that the board protector doesn't work with RDM masts, as it will come off by itself. The clips are quite loose even on SDM masts, and will not hold onto an RDM. Also note that the boom bra and the deviator, as shown in the video, are a waste of money, as neither of them solves the problem.
@UnifiberАй бұрын
Good one about the boardguard! Thank you. As for the deviator and boom bra, nothing can completely protect the board from a full-speed catapult. These devices are designed to reduce the damage to some extent. The boom bra, for instance, originates from a time when boards were longer. Nowadays, when positioned in the middle of the boom cutout, the boom is far from the board's nose. However, when using the lowest setting, the boom bra can still be effective. Both are also a good solution for schools, as the boards used there are larger and the speeds are lower.

Do you mean their Perma Lock option? An option to block the release button with a screw. We do not have it since the release mechanism is solid on its own. However, we do use a stainless steel cup insert in the base's receiving socket to reinforce all connections and moving parts.

Hi @vodussek . No, so you should only need 2 roof rack straps to tie the bag down. We have multiple options incase people have their roof rack bars at different distances apart, so that can chose which option lines up best.

Am i the only one who has problem totally closing/locking the clamps around the mast ? When I use it it looks like the knots are getting in the way. Once both clamps reopened on the water, I noticed it after falling and needed to quickly get away from some rocks... maybe there is something to do on my part ? Apart from that this concept is revolutionary. Makes so much more sense that other boom head. So easy to change the height on water!

For a raceboard it kinda looks slow compared to the short and wide freeride or slalom boards
@Unifiber8 ай бұрын
They can go faster when the conditions and skills allow it. However, of course, they will never be as fast as a dedicated slalom board. All in all, these are two different disciplines: while slalom is faster and more 'aggressive,' raceboarding is more tactical and dependent on on-the-fly adjustments. A racing course for a raceboard would have a mix of both upwind and downwind legs (here is where the daggerboard and sliding mast track come into play), whereas slalom is generally based around downwind or figure-eight courses. The wind range is also broader. Here is a citation from the Raceboard Class Rules regarding the minimum wind: 'If pumping becomes the main method of propulsion, the race shall be abandoned.'

If you get yourself a lisa quarter turn clew pulley then after setup it's quicker to rig than a standard non adjustable outhaul. Letting off tension is easy enough, but I find making the sail flat whilst planning is not so easy. Could do with some tips on that.
@Unifiber8 ай бұрын
Appreciate your feedback! It is convenient, but user would need to rethread the entire tail pulley to get it off. You can just throw the rope loops off from our Double Pulley: www.unifiber.net/windsurf-gear/accessories/adjustable-outhaul/sail-outhaul-double-pulley-5825d1b5362e6615c44ecfb1 Yet you need to take it appart to remove from the clew eyelet. But in the end, as long as it works, it is all fine.

That’s awesome. I miss my old Imco board. It’s one board you can sail in any condition. Longboards got ruined when they got shorter and fatter to hybridize with formula such as the RS:X. When boards looked like this, the sport was a lot less elitist. There were a lot more people in the sport, they sailed more often and there was more accessible, local racing. IMO a board like this would be most successful when affordable and accessible.

Thank you for this awesome reply! In the last few years, Raceboarding class saw a degree of "revival". Over 100 participants joint the worlds at Steinhuder Meer this year. Yet the boards of this class are indeed difficult to designs and produce with a sufficient level of quality control and at an accessible price range. Perhaps the Windsurfer LT class can be of interest? It checks all the boxes you've mentioned🤙

Yeah, it took a bit of getting used to, putting the boomhead on my mast(s). But got the hang of it after a while. Due to a tiny mistkake of mine, I installed the boomhead on one of my booms upside down. As was pointed out by someone on the shore. But actually...it doesn't matter much. Works just fine for me. So I kept it that way.
@Unifiber10 ай бұрын
It needs some readjustment, indeed, due to construction features. But the pros make it worth it:) Also, it doesn't matter how you put the boom head. Only the logo can be upside down as well as depending on what side of the sails you prefer rigging it. But even uphaul can be installed either way.

The boom is positioned approximately one-third of the mast's height. In this test, you should avoid applying force in the middle but whrer the boom is.
@Unifiber Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment! The video shows three test: - Mast Measurement (curve tolerances). Hence the middle load. - Heavy load SDM - Heavy load RDM You are correct about the boom, but mast is also loaded by downhaul. The heavy load test is performed by compressing the mast (pushing the base and top towards each other), mimicing the downhaul and general load in the sail to an extreme level. Of course this test doesn't perfectly simulate the real world, but it gives a good indication of the mast's strength and allows us to compare masts.

The only downside is getting the clamp around the mast, takes me about 10-15 seconds more, but I will try the tip you proposed by stretching the opening a bit by hand the first couple of times
@Unifiber Жыл бұрын
Thank you! We did notice that sailors can be reluctant to stress the collars in one way or another. Probably, when using the traditional boom head with a hinge, you can determine the min-max movement angles of the flap. When mounting the Unifiber boom on the mast, let the mast rest on top of the flaps, and apply some pressure on the top to pull the flaps away. And the mast will fall in quite easily.

@Unifiber Жыл бұрын
Hi. Apologies for missing your comment before. This video is rather old so it was tricky to establish what masts were used. Particullary, since we changed the design and specs. The fisr one is SDM; the second is SDM. The second one is shorter. Carbon content wise, we couldn't recall. Relative to it's lenght, the second mast bends as far as the first one. But due to diffirent diameters and length, the video might be somewhat missleading. Though is the end it was just cool to see the mast snap like that:)

@Unifiber Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your feedback! When using a brand-new booms head, you can actually grab each collar and bend it in the opposite direction for a couple of seconds. This will open a gap wider and make "clicking" the boom head onto the mast much easier. It is sufficient to do it just for the first couple times :)

2 more things to consider about alum/carbon. If in saltwater; how the aluminum holds up vs's using carbon. Also the mast base pins wallowing out the holes in the extension. In my experience the aluminum holes get big over time for a loose sloppy fit. Chinook gear I'm speaking about.
