Now imagine charging that EV with a diesel generator at 75% loading. Diesel gensets of around 7.5kw are about 30-35% efficient. Your average coal power plant is around 38-42% efficient. Coal is cheaper than diesel ofcourse. That will give you much better miles per U$D spent.

The fridge filter or any water filter system will not remove the dissolved solids which is why the TDS doesn't drop. Only the RO membrane does this. Most of the dissolved solids is calcium and magnesium which is not a bad thing. It all depends what you are trying to remove

Takes about 7 years to match the CO2 of an ICE car taking into account all the variables (manufacturing, power, etc). That's not 7000 miles but at least 84,000 miles .
@TheRealDavil
@TheRealDavil 4 ай бұрын
Are you taking into account manufacturing for an ICE vehicle? The average sedan is 8.8kg a year, average from a Tesla is 0.81kg. If we want to talk about supply chain Tesla reports about 30.7 million tons per year and Ford by comparison does 338 million tons per year. So all in all, about 1/10 the amount for manufacturing and operation by the most recent numbers. Do I really care about any of that? No. I bought the car because I liked the car and it works for me.
@jackdebbie
@jackdebbie 4 ай бұрын
@@TheRealDavil Of course you care - that's why you posted. The manufacturing of an EV is more intensive than ICE. Show me anything that supports your claim that manufacturing an EV is less than ICE. I think you forgot the Battery. There's a lot of back and forth on claims, but the one consistent statistic is that EV manufacturing is MORE. The propaganda machine is strong here. Hybrid sales are now 5X vs EV. Hybrids from birth to grave some articles say better than EVs. The reality is that there are still some gaping EV issues. In time that will be fixed, but ATM there are problems. Thank god others are making attractive unique EVs now. Tesla is just so bland. I always buy a car I like and works for me :) There are many articles, but this one does a good job without pandering to EV. "The production emissions for BEVs are approximately 40% higher than those of hybrid and ICE vehicles. According to a McKinsey & Company study, this high emission intensity can be attributed to the extraction and refining of raw materials like lithium, cobalt, and nickel that are needed for batteries, as well as the energy-intensive manufacturing process of BEVs: elements.visualcapitalist.com/life-cycle-emissions-of-electric-hybrid-and-combustion-engine-vehicles/

If you charged exclusively on coal fired grid power, the carbon footprint of your Tesla is equivalent to a Toyota Prius running on gasoline. That only includes burning gasoline in the car does NOT include the carbon emitted for the crude oil to be extracted, transported, refined, the transportation of the refined gasoline to the point of sale. Now, lets throw in your photovoltaic arrays, maybe a few wind turbines, maybe a nuclear power plant....Like you said, no contest! The big difference is, regenerative braking. That's the only reason a Hybrid can even compare. Charging at 27 amps, is 6,480 watts, just 20 watts shy of the maximum continuous output rating of that generator. On a hot day, I would recommend 25 amps maximum, for an even 6,000 watts. I tried the same experiment using a Briggs & Stratton V-Twin 8,000 watt generator to charge a 2023 Chevy Bolt EUV at 30 amps even. That's ~7,200 watts. The generator burned almost exactly 1 gallon per hour. At 4.1 miles per kWh, that worked out to ~29.5 miles per gallon. I got almost exactly the same result as you did! Our electric cars are so efficient, that they make up for the poor efficiency of our crumby air-cooled, carbureted engines, with fixed ignition timing. The only thing that made them even that efficient, is the fact that we were able to run our engines at brake specific fuel consumption, where the generators can produce their maximum kWh per gallon of fuel. Under lighter loads, our overall mileage would drop considerably. Portable generators tend to do their best work between 70-100% rated load.

As a certified Power Relay Tech/Commissioning Engineer contractor working with Electrical Utilities, I am officially adopting term “drop the load” as the euphemism for “inadvertent trip”. Sometimes, serious cases of inadvertent trips could cause you to literally drop the load right into your underpants. I hope no royalties are required for the term. with the exception of those small 50lb generators that have "eco mode", generators are almost always most efficient in energy output when ran full bore. never really understood why, maybe coz theyre 2 stroke or just have a lot of parasitic load? its always better to use as small of a generator as you can. that said the 2000wat 50lb generators like the honda 2000i ironically use the same exact motor as the 4000wat models, but i think the only difference is the head is maybe longer? there are videos of people swapping out a lof of the parts between very different models. 2 stroke will always suffer from efficiency though. diesel generator would be clutch. thinking of getting a 12v to 120v converter for my volt to basically have emergency shore mode, and then i could run a medium sized 4000w generator at full bore for ~3-4 hours to charge up the battery and then step it down and back up for my house in an emergency. wonder what would be more efficient?
@stevevansell1362
@stevevansell1362 Ай бұрын
So the Honda 2000 and 2000i are actually 4 stroke. 2 stroke engines can be more efficient than 4 stroke engines with a given displacement. Just depends on how it's being used. EPA restrictions such as noise, emissions, type of fuel being used all play a part in efficiency. Something like the generator he's using here is very inefficient. But let's say we have a 100cc 2 cycle with a base ported reed system ran off of direct injection diesel for pilot ignition and something gaseous like hydrogen or natural gas as the primary fuel. The only major loss is starting the inertia of a revolution instead of 2 plus having to push then pull. And if a modern inverter generator head was to use, that's at least a 40% gain over a standard gen head just because it doesn't have the residence resistance causing drag on the armature.
